The Huck’s act is playing well among the Christian right.

Fred has lost the southern vote to Elmer Gantry. He ought to think about packing it up and going back to Hollywood.

There is no way Huckabee is leading. Rasmussen needs to put down the crack pipe.

Agreed. See my post #20.

I cannot for the life of me understand why Fred Thompson polls so low and Duncan Hunter isn't even on the chart!

Just speculation, but CNN/FOX started reporting Rooty's "history" with playing games with the money to cover for his games with his latest "cheat on the wife" hobby about two weeks ago.

At the same time they started blowing a few puff pieces about the huckster. Presto, Rooty is out, Huckabee is in.

They did the same thing to Fred about mid November with the "entered late, too old, he's sick, no fire" etc etc bs which hung on for weeks. By then the damage is done. DBM is doing a pretty good job of fragmenting the pubies.

I suspect that by primary time the regular pubie voting base will be totally confused. Fred and Duncan BETTER WAKE UP! If they do not team up and attack this propaganda it will get some liberal "republican" nominated.

We will wind up with a one term Republican President and Hillary will make a comeback and win in 2012.

He has run a lousy campaign. If he had rallied social conservatives behind him from the start, he'd be where Huckabee is now.

Romney’s speech yesterday was frivolous and designed to offset the Hucksters rise in Iowa.

Could be but I do find it refreshing that Mitt does fight. I am afraid that Fred will continue to do his policy statements on his website and not get out there and do something like Mitt did. What will Fred do as President when he needs to express something to the American people...do something on the website. No Fred needs to act as President NOW and get in front of the cameras and do as you say a policy speech. In fact, he should announced that on Sunday night at 7:30 he will speak for 30 minutes on policy and have all the cameras get out there. This might make a difference. The problem of course is he is 9 percent. I don’t know whatever else he can do.

The MSM is using Huckabee to kill Thompson’s chances...the goal is to give Republican primary voters a choice between two unpalatable RINOs (at this point it looks like it could be Huckabee vs. Romney, but that could change), and the winner in November will be a Democrat.

With the Rasmussen poll out yesterday showing Huck now in first place in South Carolina (and yes lots could change in a month), what do his supporters think his possible path to the nomination could be?

Can you name a Republican Presidential nominee that hasn't won either Iowa or South Carolina? Winning both states sounds like a path to victory.

I think Fred’s problem is that he’s not looked to good on stage (sad but true) and he’s done nothing except come up with boring, very good, positions on things. In other words, too much substance and not enough flash. It’s _really_ sad that in today’s Presidential campaigns substance doesn’t cut it.

Their needs to be a "This is serious business" campaign. The Presidency is a serious job, not a circus act. One would think that given fairly recent history with the Bush-Clinton regime folks would realize this and actually look at who has the correct record on the issues.

Instead, they are waiting to "be excited."

If those percentages hold, the GOP is looking at a brokered convention.

It could be brutal in those smoke-filled rooms. At the current percentages, none of the contenders really hold a lock on the nomination. They hardly can even place a significant part, as none even holds 25%.

A true dark horse who isn’t even on the radar at present could emerge as the new knight-in-shining-armour.

So, Giuliani wasn't really leading all those months in the Rasmussen poll, either?

It sure is shaping up that way. We have time to change the fortunes, but not much time.

Republicans have been ignoring the conservatives in the race from the get go and giving credence to candidates with little, if any history of promoting conservative policy. Its a dog and pony show and certain candidates are manipulating voters. Right now, espousing liberalism, Mormonism and evangelicalism seem to be what voters are more interested in. Hopefully that will change.

Romney did a great job. Duncan is my number one choice, but FRed would be ok.

Most conservatives, I believe, agree (in spirit) with your assessment of the situation. We want the rock-ribbed conservative principals on which Hunter stands.

Most, however, do not see Hunter as having the ....(charisma?, zing?, likability?, whatever word you choose) .... necessary to win not only the GOP nomination, but the General Election in Nov.08)

I'm sorry. That's just the way it is, perception or not.

Same goes for Thompson, who would make a fabulous uncle at a family Thanksgiving dinner, but doesn't appear to have the drive and ooomph needed to out-maneuver and WIN the general election in Nov.08.

Say what you want about Romney, but he is currently promoting good... make that GREAT... conservative values and issues, regardless of whether you think he flipped on this or that.

Lastly, I think it is GOOD that some Democrats and/or 'moderates' do NOT view Romney as a dogmatic intractable conservative --- because then they would not vote for him.

And everyone knows it will take support from that mushy middle to win the Presidency, whether from the Republican side or Democratic side.

Romney is the BEST chance we have of winning. Of that I am certain.

I also believe he WILL govern from the conservative side, unlike GWB who has governed from Teddy Kennedy's bathroom.

There's as much chance of a brokered convention as there is of Anne Coulter marrying Al Franken.

The nomination will be determined on Super Duper Tuesday.

I certainly agree. If for some unexplained reason, Huckabee is our candidate (which I still don't think will happen), then the next President will be a Democrat. Romney, though, is a sure winner, IMO.

JMHO, but these polls have been glorified since the Klinton years. They seem to raised doubts on Pubbies from day to day, while showing Greeeat Progress by the Dummies.

Can we pare down or eliminate them?
