Billy Joel doesn't sing on his anti-war song

NEW YORK (AP) -- Billy Joel has released a new pop single, the anti-war "Christmas in Fallujah." Just don't expect to hear his voice on it.

Billy Joel gave his newest song, "Christmas in Fallujah," to 21-year-old Cass Dillon.

At 58, Joel felt he was too old to sing the song, which was inspired by letters the Piano Man received from soldiers in Iraq. So he gave it to Cass Dillon, a 21-year-old singer-songwriter from Long Island.

"I thought it should be somebody young, about a soldier's age," Joel said in a statement on his Web site. "I wanted to help somebody else's career. I've had plenty of hits. I've had plenty of airplay. I've had my time in the sun. I think it's time for somebody else, maybe, to benefit from my own experience."

-snip-

"Christmas in Fallujah" went on sale Tuesday on Apple Inc.'s iTunes. Net proceeds will be donated to Homes for Our Troops, which builds homes for severely wounded veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Fallujah?

Billy Joel, put down the pipe, it’s not 2003 anymore.

Few things in life are more pathetic than an aging former pop-star still seeking relevance.

Well, he might be antiwar, but at least he puts his pocketbook where his mouth is.

I can respectfully disagree with someone like him.

which was inspired by letters the Piano Man received from soldiers in Iraq.

Are there really a lot of soldiers who take the time to write letters to Billy Joel? Why do any?!

Well that’s nice. Hope the song doesn’t suck too bad. It’s been a LONG while since Billy wrote anything worth hearing.

I would suspect the song is no more “anti-war” than “Goodnight, Saigon.”

I wonder if the song is really ‘anti-war’, or if that is how CNN is spinning it. I do remember that he made Michelle Malkin’s list of celebrities that support the troops.

I saw the video on VH1 the other day: Dear Mr. President by Pink.

I haven’t sworn that much in a long time.

She’s singing at a concert, with a slideshow behind her.

At first it looked like Natalie Maines, but it was Pink in a headscarf.

Major projectile vomiting alert if you run across this insipid video.

Maybe him and Barry Manilow can go on a world tour in order to fight the dangerous disease, lack of sleep.

Here’s the video for it (has the lyrics on the screen, while it’s playing):

It’s very far left wacko lyrics, if you ask me.

Just don't expect to hear his voice on it.

That would improve any song!

Just his career. I think he and Elton John are running a bridal shop in queens.

Christmas In Fallujah - Cass Dillon

It’s evening in the desert
I’m tired and I’m cold
But I am just a soldier
I do what I am told
We came with the crusaders
To save the Holy Land

It’s Christmas in Fallujah
And no one gives a damn

And I just got your letter
And this what I read
You said I’m fading from your memory
So I’m just as good as dead
We are the Armies of the Empire
We are the Legionnaries of Rome

It’s Christmas in Fallujah
And we aien’t never coming home

We came to bring these people Freedom
We came to fight the Infidel
There is no justice in the desrt
Because there is no Good in Hell

They say Osama’s in the Mountains
Deep in a cave near Pakistan
But there’s a sea of blood in Baghdad
A sea of oil in the sand
Between the Tigris and Euphrates
Another day comes to an end

It’s Christmas In Fallujah
Peace on Earth Goodwill to Men
It’s Christmas In Fallujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
It’s Christmas In Fallujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
It’s Christmas In Fallujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
It’s Christmas In Fallujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Merry Crhistmas from Fallujah
Merry Crhistmas from Fallujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
OO-RA!

Typical Billy Joel arrangement. Sounds like its from “the Nylon Curtain” era.

Does anybody believe that Billy Joel is receiving letters from our soldiers in Iraq?
