Huckabee Proposal Borrows from Anti-Immigration Activist

BLUFFTON, South Carolina (CNN) — The nine-point immigration plan released Friday by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee came with a footnote:

"Note: This plan is partially modeled on a proposal by Mark Krikorian, Executive Director of the Center for Immigration Studies." That proposal by the conservative anti-illegal immigration activist was published in the National Review in May 2005.

Not only is Huckabee's plan strikingly similar to the magazine piece – in some cases, it contains exact quotations copied over from the article.

This plan is making me take a look at Huckabee for the first time. Yes, you can say he isn't sincere, but you can't call this plan an amnesty plan. I'm going to listen to what he says and try to decide if he means what he says when he proposes this plan.

Is Mike Huckabee the GOP Joe Biden? Is it me or are their echoes of Neil Kinnock present here? Plagiarism is certainly a vote getter! ;-)

Sounds like he stole someone’s already formulated plan because he was hemorrhaging on this issue. I don’t trust Huckabee on immigration, his actions in the past favored Arkansas corporations looking for cheap, illegal labor. And, his tuition plan for illegal students was reprehensible, despite his attempts to skirt the truth.

I can definitely see where you’re coming from, but I’m not excluding the possibility that, even if this is a conversion of convenience, he will stick with the conversion even if elected. He’s come out with a specific plan which is way, way away from amnesty. That’s a pretty good start in my view.

I guess he needed to win over Secure Borders folks in a hurry - originality be damned.

“Some staffer cut and pasted it seems.”

That’s fine with me, as long as he cut and pasted a good plan and - here’s the tricky part - will stick with it if elected. I actually trust a plan more that comes from a genuine expert in immigration like Krikorian who’s on the right side of the issue. That way we can be sure there’s no amnesty lurking in the details and fine print.

Huck’s words are meaningless. Judge a man by his (previous)
actions, not his words.

All you have to do is look at the mans record people...not his current blathering.

I’m very leery of putting a minister in the President’s office. This would include rabbis and priests, as well.

Huckabee was a disaster on immigration as a governor, no doubt about that. That’s why I wasn’t even giving him a serious look before- immigration is a huge issue with me.

But he’s promising that he will promote this plan, and I care more about what he will do in the future than what he has done in the past. So I’m going to be skeptical because of his past, but AFAIK Huck isn’t known as a liar, so I’m going to at least listen to him and see if he is serious about what he says.

I'm going to listen to what he says and try to decide if he means what he says when he proposes this plan.

A few short months ago Huckabee said people who opposed SHANESTY are "racists and bigots."

He questioned the "Christian Values" of the legislators proposing a bill in Arkansas that would not reward illegals with state benefits.

If you take an honest look at Mike Huckabee and you oppose illegal immigration, you will not like what you see.

Huckabubba is just the latest reincarnation of Elmer Gantry, and like Gantry he is succesfully selling his snake oil.

BTW, who do you think would look tougher to would-be agressors? Hillary Clinton or Mike Huckabee?

If you were ready to believe this kind of opportunistic flip-flopping from Mitt, why not believe it from Huck too?

After all, wy reserve your credulity for just one candidate?

I TOTALLY agree, Mr. Huckabee was FOR Illegal amnesty and pushed VERY hard for it while he was in a position of power. Even up to a week ago he supported amnesty for illegal aliens NOW he is against it. A mans ACTIONS speak louder than his words. Talk is cheap and he has changed his tune simply because it is politically expedient for him to do so.

I am an evangelical Christian and I refuse to vote for Mr. Huckabee. He is weak on illegals, weak on fighting crime (as evidenced by his massive pardons while govenor) and he is a slick talker. We already went through this with Clintoon, I refuse to be a part of Clintoon Arkansas II.

Does this plan make Huckabee a flip flopper? He seems to have been very pro illegals, helping pay for the mexican consulate offices in Little Rock, pro illegals college breaks, etc, etc, etc? I can hear Dickie telling him....”Say whatever you need to say,you can do what you want later”.
