American liberals have promulgated a standard account of our experience in Southeast Asia and its lessons for today. That account is a myth.

Let’s look at some parts of my conversation with the guy who was capable of acting like an adult and didn’t insult me:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1943083/posts?page=92#92

I think the fact that it took two weeks of saturation bombing to get the North Vietnamese to sign a treaty that had functionally been on the table for 6 years is one of the saddest things in American politics ever. Every single American soldier that died during that 6 years is a tragic waste of life. LBJ had the ability to win the war outright in 1967, instead he ceased bombing as a show of good faith. Of course it doesn’t stop there, Nixon had the ability to win the war outright in 1968 by resuming the bombing the minute he took office, instead he negotiated a sissy peace that the Democrats wouldn’t defend so we wound up fleeing the country. Sad stupid politicians all the way around.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1943083/posts?page=95#95

There’s a lot of people who are burning or will burn in hell for turning what should have been a quick easy war (as much as any war can be) into a long protracted loss. Treasonous press, stupid politicians, and top level commanders (aka politicians with uniforms) without the balls to tell those politicians to stop wasting lives.

See I don’t blame the military. I never have, I never would, not in my life. You misunderstood one half of one sentence, and if you weren’t so addicted to being an abusive jerk I would even apologize to you for making that sentence misunderstandable just like I did to Bigun. But instead you decided you wanted it to be a flame war, you started off with the shouts, then the insults, then called me a liar. So no apology for you, you just get the facts that prove you’re an idiot addicted to your own anger.

The lost battlefield of Vietnam. It’s OF not IN. That’s what I meant, that’s clear from other posts I made. But you just can’t accept that. You want a flame war so bad that’s you’re sitting there screaming insults at someone that agrees with you 100% on why we lost that war.

You’re the only one dishonoring yourself with your anger that’s blinded you. The only coward here is the one that’s afraid to apologize for being such a needless jerk. I already apologized for the confusing sentence. Now why don’t you man up. Come on it’s Christmas, have a little bit of the Christmas spirit, admit the possibility that you misread what I wrote. It’s good for the soul.

Please post a link to the thread in question. We can read it ourselves and make up our own minds. Thanks.

Dude, I’m trying to reach out here. I’ve admitted that the sentence could be misread. I will not “admit” I wanted it to say what you think it says because I have never in my life ever even thought about blaming the men in the field for the loss in Vietnam.

Now come on, Christmas spirit time, let’s end this peacefully, this really is all around the dumbest flame war I’ve ever been in on, because we are 100% in agreement on the core subject. I admit the sentence that upset was poorly constructed and could be misread, through no fault of the reader, to imply blame where it does not belong. Now let’s see what you’ve got.

I linked to it in 43. Those exact links are late in the conversation but it’s all in that thread. RA included the objectionable sentence, which I still can’t see that interpretation but I’m writing that off as why we all are bad proof readers of ourselves. There are absolutely no circumstances under which I would blame the men in the field for the loss of Vietnam, I wouldn’t say it jokingly, I wouldn’t say it sarcastically, I wouldn’t quote somebody saying, I simply would not say it. I was raised better than that.

Excellent summation Frank, and I agree that the most significant parallel between Vietnam and our current war is the lies and myth's created by the home grown treasonous left.

From Herman's article at the Commentary site;

After 1970, Communist North Vietnam steadily armed and trained the Khmer Rouge to do battle against the pro-American government in Phnom Penh. At the time, antiwar activists in the United States were perfectly aware of this, and wholly approved: here was the Vietcong’s Cambodian twin, another group of Asian revolutionaries struggling to liberate their country from the yoke of neo-colonialism.

Those people were not anti-war then, and they are not anti-war now. That is the biggest lie of all. They are simply anti-American and will do whatever they can to support America's enemies.

Thanks for that information. Speaking of Kerry, don’t you find it interested that the liberals who created the myths and lies about Vietnam are now using the term “swift-boating” as a synonymn for slander? The fact is that those officers and servicemen who served with Kerry and told the truth about his service in Vietnam acted out of no personal or political ulterior motives other than to stop the lies and mythologizing of the past. In fact, they wouldn’t even have spoken out if the guy who told Congress back in the 60’s that U.S. troops were routinely committing barbarous and savage war crimes were not running for president. This is a good example liberal Orwellian “double-think.”

It is not only the liberals who have distorted what the SBVFT did in exposing Kerry’s lieds and phony war hero status, it is their allies in the MSM who have made “swiftboating” a pejorative term. It is indeed Orwellian where “War is Peace; Freedom is Slavery; Ignorance is Strength.”

Indeed it is an EXCELLENT summation!

The only thing that Herman neglects in his piece, and I wish that he hadn't, is the absolute complicity or the United States Department of State in all of this. THEY were the big players and had a GREAT deal to do with facilitating the overthrow of Diem and all that followed.
