Friends of Hillary (Alpha Women Remain Elusive)
Wall Street Journal ^ | 8 December 2007 | MONICA LANGLEY

Posted on 12/08/2007 9:22:45 AM PST by shrinkermd

She's the ultimate professional woman. So you'd think Hillary Clinton's biggest source of support would be other alpha females.

But as the New York senator's presidential campaign works to mobilize women executives, doctors and lawyers around America, it's getting a reality check: Many have resisted the call-up. So far, she's doing better among women of more modest means.

Professional women are "much harder sells" than men. "They're tough." They are less inclined than men to see things in black and white, and seek more information before deciding, this adviser says. Events for businesswomen must be substantive, because they frequently ask more questions than businessmen, Sen. Clinton's advisers say.

Dr. Janice Werbinski, past president of American Medical Women's Association and an early Clinton supporter, says she didn't like the New York senator's answers in a recent conference call for female physicians. "Now I'm having second thoughts," she says.

"I saw the same thing when I ran for Senate the first time in 2000," Sen. Clinton said in an interview on Wednesday afternoon. "Professional women were the last to close for me." They were not about to support her just because of her gender, she said. "This is very much in line with what I've seen" in past campaigns.

...Among all women -- Democrats, Republicans and independents -- feelings toward Sen. Clinton vary with professional status, according to the latest Wall Street Journal/NBC national poll, taken in early November. Among nonprofessionals, 52% said they had positive impressions of her, while 38% were negative. But women who identify themselves as professionals or managers were markedly less enthusiastic, with 42% reporting positive impressions, and 44% negative.

Another challenge: Professional women are naturally higher-income than their nonprofessional peers, putting them squarely in the traditional low-tax, antiregulation territory of the Republican Party.

Things are getting really bad if she thinks that having Chelsea at her side balances having Oprah at Obama’s.

Great analysis, I hope you are right on the meltdown.

Seeing Chelsea at her side just makes me think that, as she gets older, how more and more she looks like Webster Hubbell.

How about having Huma at her side? Does that help or hurt her?

It doesn't hurt her when she's at her side - only when she's on top, or underneath..

Yes plus no one wants to mention that she flunked the DC bar exam.

How much grief would a republican candidate get if they flunked the Bar exam?

She's the ultimate professional woman

Huh? By marring Bill and riding his coat tails into the US Senate she qualifies as a "professional woman"?

What an insult to the 100s of thousands of REALLY professional woman in the USA! The only thing she has ever done is be a politicians wife.

All her "professional" experience had nothing to do with her, it all had to do with who she was married to and the political offices he held.

Although she has her legal experience....

While at the Rose law firm, her courtroom 'experience" consisted of being only 5 times in court.

"I still can't fathom why they chose her as their candidate."

The Democrats will go with anyone they believe can WIN. Not only can the Clintons raise all the $ from all over the world to outspend the Republican candidate at least 10-1, but enough on top of that to dole it out to candidates for the House and Senate to make certain Hillary will have a veto proof Congress.

Why wouldn't the Democrats want her for their candidate? The Clintons will cheat when it comes to illegal votes and illegal $. When is the last time a Democrat complained that one of their own is a liar, cheater, criminal?

I am a professional woman and have been for 40 years. I don’t like being called an alpha woman. Yuch.

You are right about all your points.

If there is one thing a professional woman knows is that you always take responsibility for your actions, pay consequenses and you are forthright in your dealings.

And you don’t put up with men who make a fool of you.

“No. They are going to cheat.”

My guess is massive voter fraud on the nuclear size coupled with vote “buying” Pardongate style and millions invested into media coverage through laundered chinese money. Throw in a few publicity stunts like the NH hostage taker.

Never before has someone held so few jobs, contributed so little, and destroyed so many lives.

The Dems will choose Hillary Milhous Clinton simply because she can win.

The dirty little secret is that she will win 99% of the Democratic female vote and upwards of 70% of the female Independent vote SIMPLY BECAUSE SHE’S A WOMAN!!!!! She will win even a sizable portion of the REPUBLICAN vote on that basis, too.

Hillary and her peeps have known this ever since Bill’s infidelities became public knowledge and “the sisterhood” rallied behind her.

Uh, maybe “alpha women” don’t respect someone like Shrillary who owes her prominence to her HUSBAND’s career.

Without Bill Clinton, Shrillary never would have had a fart’s chance in hell of being a leading candidate for the presidency.

Of course, the same can be said for him since she probably saved his career at least a few times..... they need each other, but the nation does not need them!!
