That was my first question, too. I wonder if there is enough of it to test and identify it as either human or animal at least? I realize that in the article they mention animal sacrifices, but the author doesn't really make it clear if the blood has been identified as animal blood. I suppose testing like that wouldn't be possible if they don't want to damage the artifacts though...

The Protein Residue Analysis identifies the type of protein down generally to the family level. That means dog, coyote and wolf could not be separated from each other, but they could be separated from bear, pig, human, etc.

I don't know if the haplogroup/haplotype could be identified. It would certainly be worth a try. The contamination would seem to be a large problem though with items that are handled so much.
