I have mentioned the monument to Black Confederate Soldiers that is located in Canton, Mississippi. PC keeps it under wraps but it is a significant obelisk dedicated to the Henderson Scouts, a BLACK MISSISSIPPI Confederate Unit. You have to back that up with something.
Also, you may be thinking of Harvey's Scouts.
So far as I've been able to find out, neither Harvey's Scouts nor Henderson's Scouts was a "BLACK MISSISSIPPI Confederate Unit."
According to one webpage, the monument reads: "To the memory of the good and loyal servants who followed the fortunes of Harveys Scouts during the civil War ... A tribute to my Faithful Servant and Friend, Willis Howcott, a colored boy of rare Loyalty and Faithfulness, Whose Memory I Cherish with Deep Gratitude."
I believe you are correct. My memory doesn’t serve me well sometimes...it was Harvey’s scouts...but remembered a significant number of them belonging to the unit that were black. I have a newspaper article hidden away somewhere that mentions that monument....but I remember that the monument was to loyal black Confederate members...just like companies D and L of the 7th Tennessee Cavalry had their black members listed on the rolls....both D and L mention the black members of the unit...Now I have that book in front of me and it lists the colored members of the unit, companies D and L.
