WASHINGTON Four top members of Congress, including now-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, got a close look at CIA overseas detention sites and interrogation techniques in September 2002 and offered no challenge to their legitimacy, according to a news article out Sunday.
On the contrary, at least two lawmakers involved in the briefing that day questioned whether the CIA was pushing hard enough, even after hearing the details of the now widely criticized technique known as waterboarding, two U.S. officials told The Washington Post.
"The briefer was specifically asked if the methods were tough enough," one official is quoted saying.
A virtual tour of the sites given by the CIA was among 30 private briefings with key legislative leaders during the 2002-2003 era when waterboarding was used. At the time, only one objection filed by then-House Intelligence Committee Ranking Democrat Jane Harman was made.
Waterboarding has since become the pariah of interrogation techniques. On Friday, Attorney General Michael Mukasey agreed to launch an inquiry into the 2005 destruction of tapes of CIA interrogators performing waterboarding on high value detainees.

And this surprises who????
They'll still spin it to make it sound like they never supported waterboarding!/sigh
Tough enuf?
Call me cynical but no surprise here.
Down the Memory Hole.
The only surprise to me is the amount of beating the CIA has taken only to just now come out with this.
Is it tough enough Teddy?
I call for a special prosecutor to investigate their treasonous actions during a time of war.
"to take it out of the political realm"
And Joe Biden wants a special prosecutor? We’ll see how long that one lasts.
Yeah, you’d think the CIA and the President would take 5 minutes out of their day to actually defend themselves.
The CIA is too busy trying to undercut the President, the President is trying too hard for appeasement and the Rats are laughing all the way to the elections.
ouch!
I know that no one here is surprised by this infuriating, disgusting, cynical, pathetic hypocrisy, but sometime, somewhere, steps need to be taken to SHOVE THIS DOWN THEIR LYING THROATS.
There’s no Republican’s with balls enough to shove it down their lying throats.
Well, the reason is simple - back in 2002 said representatives were still scared by 9/11. They knew it could be them, next. But enough time has passed since that they’ve been able to rationalize 9/11 away as a one-time incident, so why not flip-flop and start attacking the Administration over it?
A sad and sorry state is this to which we’ve come. To see that some folks have such a love of power for the sake of power that they will stoop to the depths of lies and outright treasonous scheming to further their megalomaniacal desires gives me cause for pause to reflect on the nature of professional politicians; a specie that was never considered by the founders of this grand experiment.
It seems to me that strict term limits would be great place to start; for both House and Senate. We also need a SCOTUS with enough backbone to enforce the Framers’ intentions vis-a-vis the US Constitution, not the moral relativist position that seems to have taken root in so much of this Great Leviathan.
Unfortunately, I don’t think this is going to happen without a very significant grass-roots effort by we, the people, so that we might reclaim our more perfect union.
The funny thing is that the RATS are so focused on the Swiftboats, that they don't see the "destroyers and battleships" waiting just over the horizon.
Game on!
“.....SHOVE THIS DOWN THEIR LYING THROATS.”
I was thinking of another insertion point, but that should also work. ;>)
