A WEST Australian medical expert wants families to pay a $5000-plus "baby levy" at birth and an annual carbon tax of up to $800 a child.

Writing in today's Medical Journal of Australia, Associate Professor Barry Walters said every couple with more than two children should be taxed to pay for enough trees to offset the carbon emissions generated over each child's lifetime.

Good grief - this is Australia...land of the kangaroos.

the parents could just get a kangaroo to go along with each kid - That should even out their carbon credits - per:

"Kangaroo farts could ease global warming"

We should eliminate all taxes and fine people the per-capita amount of any spending they suggest. So suggesting a $100 Billion health care program would cost you $300. Proposing a $500 Billion carbon sequestration program would cost you $1500, and so forth.

Western civilization is dying, and this idiot wants to finish it off. The best thing that can happen for population balance is industrialization, and the best thing that can happen for industrialization is healthy markets in Western societies.

My favorite line:

"Every newborn baby in Australia represents a potent source of greenhouse gas emissions..."

Ain't it the truth!

If we went by this guy’s logic...then we ought to get a tax credit when we die....or at least our wife should.

Or husband, for the ladies like me. But then that might imply a refund of sorts, and we all know what piggies we humans are in terms of wasting the planet's resources!

Now, now, that's nonsensical in the self-deprecating, tax and spend mentality!! We all know death is just another great opportunity for taxation! Ch-ching! /end sarcasm

;-)

Even if they agreed with the logic (logic not being their strong suit), they would be loathe to admit they need to give back. Perhaps they can levy a tax to fund the study of it? ;-)
