COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (CNN) -- A Colorado Springs megachurch instituted security precautions after a shooting at a Denver area mission center earlier Sunday, saving "hundreds of lives" at the New Life Church, senior Pastor Brady Boyd said Monday.

A New Life parishioner acting as a security guard shot and killed a gunman who entered the church Sunday afternoon after he had gotten no more than 50 feet inside the building, Boyd said.

...

Boyd said the female security guard was a hero in preventing further bloodshed, rushing to confront the gunman just inside the church.

"She probably saved over a hundred lives," Boyd said of the guard, whom he said is not a law enforcement officer and used her personal weapon.

...

"Hundreds of lives were saved yesterday because of the plan that was put in place," said Boyd, who put the number of people on the church campus at the time as 7,000.

The 5.7mm is only in the class of the .22 mag. That KelTec 5.56mm "pistol" of yours would eat its lunch. For that matter, would eat ANY pistol's lunch, and do it out to 200 yards.

Apparently you don't realize that you're gonna have to file an EIR and apply for an air quality permit in order to break out one of those things. Then there are the costs for the hazmat crew for the cleanup. That one really hurts; cuz them guys is union.

I know that big blast of flame is a gas, but yuz just gots to git a bit more creative. Why not RPG 'em with a fatal dose of laughing gas? It's quick, easy, doesn't hurt the paint, and the folks downstream would get a nice buzz. Even the FDA thing would be a one-shot deal.

This way, the only union involved would be the glazers. Have some compassion for the paint!

Also, if you don’t mind cleaning up after firing corrosive ammo, 7.62X25 is one of the last milsurp “deals” out there in a viable combat round.

With 5.56 etc costing way north of 50 centavos a pop, ammo for your Tokarev or CZ52 at 11 cents a round looks better and better.

Get it while it lasts, folks. Those big Bulgarian ammo cans won’t be around forever, especially if a ‘rat wins in 08 and bans imports.

I think the days of the public being passive victims is over for shooters in malls, churchs’ or planes.

The sooner the better. Half the country gets it. The other half will......one way or the other.

"I was being wee bit sarcastic. I am in fact "security" at my church. It's a calling."

So you would turn both cheeks...at the same time...towards the problem! LOL!

I also am "security" in a semiofficial way at my church. I usually don't get door duty as I'm also in the choir, however, last night, the youth choir performed their musical. I immediately took door duty and handed out the bulletins. An elderly member of the church arrived with his wife and said, "I see they put you on the door after what happened in Colorado today". I had not heard the news and the only person that put me on the door was the Holy Spirit. *smile*

““Hundreds” may be an exaggeration,..."

see post 355. It says Fox News reported the perp was carrying a grenade. If that can be verifed, that he indeed had one or more grenades, it's possible he could have inflicted a staggering death toll.

As a side note, while reading through this thread it occurred to me that there's another fine lady who's probably smiling about this tonight, albeit with grim satisfaction tinged with sadness. She has to be pleased that the hard lessons she has devoted her life to teaching have been learned by at least some.

Her name is Suzanna Gratia Hupp. Lest we forget...

It took a steely nerves for the unarmed rusher to do his mission, which was literally to draw attention (and fire) and thus allow the armed lady to take her shots.

“No greater love.” That dude put it on the line.

I blew the formatting with the < > on that reply at 367. It dropped out the middle quote, and totally mangles my meaning. I meant to 100% agree that it could have been 100s easily, with 7,000 tightly packed targets, and rifle ammo capable of penetrating several people each.

We are fortunate that she didn't wait around for the "well-regulated militia" to show up.

God bless the Second Amendment.

If all three had been ‘doing what they should perhaps only the first person would have been shot, then the killer killed!

I believe the MSM is foogin up the “smoke” grenade’s he had......sensationalism to say grenade vs smoke grenade per se.....

I all too well remember the Luby’s incident here in Texas.....Hupps efforts drove the CHL / CCW cause home and got us what little we have today. I am grateful for that small blessing of the CHL she helped us get to protect me and mine.

Next line from the liberal bedwetters:

“Why did she have to shoot him so many times? Couldn’t she have just shot him in the arms and legs and wounded him?”

Now that rings a bell. Ah, yes, shades of Secretary of State Warren Christopher's plaintive question to Col. Charlie Beckwith during the briefing for Operation Eagle Claw, the mission to rescue our hostages in the Iranian embassy... /grin

It will certainly be interesting to find out.

I absolutely agree with you, but it’s a bear to conceal.

With my “new math” adding .45 to .223 and dividing by 2 equals 5.7 ;o)
