“The boy was going for the record, IMO”

He certainly had the potential for hundreds. Hell, even one is too many and a record I am glad was stopped. Thank God for a church who felt it necessary to have an armed guard.

She had a CCL and was church member, she wasn’t paid for this, she wasn’t a security guard.

She was just a citizen with a carry permit.

News just reported that he “hated Christians”. I doubt this will be portrayed as an “attempted hate crime/mass murder” though.

I expect to see follow-up stories about how some deranged clergy was responsible for turning him into a gun-toting psychopath. They’ll find an anti-christian / anti-gun angle yet.

Just give them time. That or the story will be promplty buried.

The local cops were a little bent out of shape at my ideas of the right equipment and way to do things in the event of a sniper situation hereabouts, too. rotflmao, I can't imagine why. ;-)

It may have been my suggestion to send a negotiator in to chat, getting the suspect to expose himself for something really spectacular. Hey, those guys want attention, right?

The source -- a long-time member of New Life Church, site of the second shooting -- said Murray had a falling out with Youth With a Mission after working with the organization a couple of years ago and that he sent antagonistic and threatening correspondence afterward

This makes the whole thing fall into place a bit. However, it's odd that the member of New Life Church knew him when the pastor has said that the church did not know him. Actually, it's not odd. It's just odd that the pastor would say that when he doesn't even know who's in his church.

I’ve seen plenty of zippered Bible covers. They’d be perfect for carrying a max pistol like a Glock 30 or XD.45.

Just don’t cut up a Bible.

Concur. Maybe I can get the folks who are doing the pigskin binding of my Koran copy to suggest something.

“In fairness, for 24 hours, he was a muslim on Free Republic.” I think the truth of these suppositions is pretty close to the following: If something is ACTUALLY politically/terrorist motivated, the chances are strong it's going to turn out to be a Muslim. However, the number of loony/loser killings in a nation of 300,000,000 is, unfortunately, sufficiently large that out of all the multiple killings, most of them are going to turn out to be non-muslims, however much some may wish it to be otherwise.

The best advice is to let it shake out at leat a couple of hours before jumping to conclusions. Once a perp is ID'd, then you can go to town. Viz, the Salt Lake City shooter, who was a Muslim, though also apparently a young loser, v. Omaha and this guy, who sure seem pretty whitebread, based on all of the evidence so far.

Thanks for reporting about the take down, I haven’t heard of it until you did so. Appreciate it.

From Church gunman "hated Christians" - it says the armament ratio was one handgun against an AK47, an automatic pistol, a shotgun, and body armor. This is the first I heard of the shotgun. This would explain that interview I saw on KKTV's online site with a parishioner who had shotgun pellets in his arm, but was mystified because he never saw a shotgun in the perp's hands. But anyway, here's the quote from the article:
He fired numerous rounds from the AK-47 in the parking lot before entering the church, where he was killed by a security guard. The guard fired as many as six bullets into him, according to sources. Murray also had an automatic pistol and a shotgun.

Why repair the damage? Personally, I would choose to leave the 40 bullet holes in the walls intact - a good reminder to all church members everywhere that faith can have a price. 313 posted on 12/10/2007 4:05:03 PM EST by CardCarryingMember.VastRightWC

In Bulgaria, there is an Orthodox church which is a shrine to the 5,000 Orthodox Christians who were massacred at that site by the Turkish Moslems in 1878. The bodies were left right there ever since, as a perpetual reminder of the cost of resistance to evil. (In all the other MANY massacre sites, the bodies were buried).

Psalm 46 - “God is our refuge and our strength, an ever-present help in distress. Thus we do not fear, though earth be shaken and mountains quake to the depths of the sea, Though its waters rage and foam and mountains totter at its surging. The LORD of hosts is with us; our stronghold is the God of Jacob. Selah!”

Psalm 92 - “My eyes have seen the downfall of my enemies; my ears have heard the doom of my evil assailants. The righteous flourish like the palm tree, and grow like a cedar in Lebanon. They are planted in the house of the Lord; they flourish in the courts of our God.”

Don’t have time to read the whole thread, so if someone else has made this point, my apologies.

But, this, in eighteenth century parlance, is what “well-regulated” means. Well trained.

God bless this obviously well-trained, prepared, woman and her family. She did what we are all called to do: Protect the weak and the defenseless. She performed to the highest standard of what it means to be an American.

She should have called the Governor for permission to remove the weapon from its locker.
