The following comments are from an actual witness to the Omaha shooting, and a Police Officer who responded. Other than minor edits for spelling and clarity, we have not altered their comments, since, though somewhat disjointed, they convey the surreal and disorienting reality of being involved in a public shooting rampage.

Long read, but WELL worth it..I only excerpted the editors preface comments to the story because it would do no justice to the story to take a 300 word snip out of it.

The contrast between the Omaha shooting (no defense) and the Salt Lake (and other) shootings, (defense made), is the key part of the story that the press is lying about. Remember, the worst lies are those that are built with silence. Readers, viewers, voters have to be educated and thoughtful to notice what was left out.

My wife was somewhat cautious about guns as was my sister-in-law. After this event, both are now pro-gun. As for me, I will never again be caught without a gun. The Self preservation instinct will change many a mind

I yelled to some guy to call 911. Then I asked him if he had a gun I could use. He didn't ask a fellow police officer, not a security guard. He asked "some guy" if he had a gun to use.
Interesting that

Billybob, would you fix your link to your Chas. Gibson commentary? It isn’t working. Had to search your posts to find a thread on it. (And it was worth it!)
To: Domandred
Misread intro. Thought it was a police officer writing first part.

Then, somehow I focused in on the shooter. He was towards the South wall, in the east corner, maybe 30 degrees to my left. He was about 30 yards away. later If I had a gun, I have a perfect shot.
he states later how he realized he had a perfect shot...sad indeed. He's gotta live with that image the rest of his life because of some nut....

I didn’t have a link to Charles Gibson’s commentary. Besides, he presented it as news, not commentary, which goes to the heart of my complaint about him and the whole MSM. I don’t usually put Internet links in my columns because my columns are published both in print and electronic media. In print media the links are useless, and frustrating to readers.

Great read. A powerful argument for personal carry. Thanks for posting.
I do not have a Concealed Handgun Permit. I have completed the training class, but I kept putting off applying for the permit because I thought it is useless. In the places I would need a gun most, I am not allowed to have it. But I will not be a person living in fear and not go to Van Maur because they dont allow guns...My point is that Open Carry needs to be easier in Omaha, and places like Westroads need to take down their no guns signs...I could have drawn and taken a clean shot...My wife was somewhat cautious about guns as was my sister-in-law. After this event, both are now pro-gun. As for me, I will never again be caught without a gun.
An interesting bit of introspection there. Without a firearm his best option was a potentially suicidal unarmed rush. I'm sure he now regrets not trying it. Of course, if he had tried it and got killed for his trouble his family would be the ones doing the regretting.

Pass this around to all your friends/family. This story needs to be told.
Thanks...

Got a pic from the original report
I'm never going unarmed again.
I've heard also that Westroads and JCPenny have taken down their no weapons signs since the shooting.

They have. Hopefully not to be replaced with signs with bigger lettering.
