Endorsements From Florida Reflect Conservative Divide
Wall Street Journal ^ | December 11, 2007

Marco Rubio, the speaker of the Florida House, and state Rep. David Rivera yesterday threw their weight behind Mike Huckabee for president. Months ago, Mr. Rubio was rumored to be mulling an endorsement of Fred Thompson, but the former Tennessee senator's campaign hasn't garnered the kind of momentum many conservatives in the Sunshine State anticipated when he entered the race in September.

Yesterday's move drew some immediate push-back from Mitt Romney supporters, who held a conference call yesterday in part to play down the importance of the Rubio endorsement, according to the St. Petersburg Times blog. "We have some concerns as conservatives about Mike Huckabee," said U.S. Rep. Tom Feeney (R., Fla.), citing Mr. Huckabee's record on taxes while he was governor of Arkansas. Mr. Feeney, a former Florida House speaker, noted that three former speakers (himself, Allan Bense and John Thrasher) are all backing Mr. Romney. "Three speakers beat one speaker," Mr. Feeney joked.

The endorsements come as Mr. Huckabee is surging in the polls, including a Newsweek survey that gives him a 2-to-1 lead over Mr. Romney in Iowa.

As candidates head into the early January contests in Iowa and New Hampshire, Mr. Huckabee's wife, Janet, also hit the campaign trail. The Huckabee campaign said she will be in New Hampshire today to formally accept the endorsement of the New Hampshire chapter of the National Education Association -- the first time the chapter has recommended a Republican candidate to its 16,000 state members. The New Hampshire NEA also endorsed Sen. Hillary Clinton on the Democratic side.

Mr. Huckabee isn't taking time off before tomorrow's Republican debate in Iowa. He is signed up for six appearances today, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in Council Bluffs and ending with a 7 p.m. event at Drake University in Des Moines.

Huckabee might be surging in Iowa, but I have big doubts regarding the NewsWEAK poll that puts him in a double digit lead over Romney.

I need to watch the debate tomorrow, since I haven’t made up my mind yet.

Huckabee is just there to protect Giuliani.

Would not surprise me if thise “endorsement” of the nanny state hucksters is just part of that.

All the old Jeb Bush and then GWBush leased campaign HQ’s and signs now say “Giuliani.”

IPTV to Broadcast Des Moines Register Presidential Debates December 12 and 13

There you go, link and all! ;-)

I must say, National Review's endorsement of Mitt Romney will make me take a second look at him...my interest was also piqued by Orrin Hatch's words about how Mitt is a financial genius. Admittedly, OH may be a bit biased, but I still think he has a point.

Also, Mitt's dad was governor of Michigan, and I don't think that place turned into "Mormon-Land", so the religion argument is a canard.

Anyway, good luck watching and deciding! One thing is sure: we must defeat Hitlery and/or B. Hussein Obama and/or the Breck Girl in 2008!!
