Yes, unfortunately, in this PC euphemistic age, “single” often means “just not married right now”. As in divorced, widowed. I hate the bastardization of terminology to make 1self look better.

I hope you did not mean that the way that it sounded. It sounds as if you're saying that those who are divorced or widowed are not as good as those who have never been married and are deceitfully attempting to make themselves look as good as the never-married. Surely that was not your intent.

I didn’t say they “aren’t as good”.

SINGLE always in the past (pre-PC) MEANT NEVER married. That was understood.

Suddenly in the age of PC, it’s become “not married now”. The term “single” has been co-opted.

It IS deceptive. Many are trying to indicate they have no “baggage”. (Because that’s what many people think when they see “divorced” especially.) I’m not PC. Don’t try to paint me as something I’m not. I’m pointing out facts, that’s all.
