Huckabees big problem is that conservatives aren't supporting him either. That's a huge inconvenience when the liberal media supports and sustains you and then no one shows up at the election.

And your evidence for this is...?

Of course conservatives are supporting him. Social conservatives, primarily. Why do you think Romney is attacking him now? Romney wouldn't bother if he didn't think Huckabee had some serious legs.

Wish I had hard evidence, and I don't. I only have his record on the major concervative issues such as immigration, taxation and government interference with personal freedom. Huckabee is a fraud on all points, supported neither by his record as governor nor his performance on the campaign trail.

When I first got excited about Huckabee's potential, all I did was simple research. I was in shock. How did this guy get any sort of conservative support? It doesn't make any sense. On every primary conservative issue he's a dismal failure!

However his rise is consistent with the same phenomenon we've witnessed with the rise of Yankee liberal Romney, insane McCain and "Which color of taffeta goes with my stilleto pumps" Giuliani.

The fact that the liberal MSM is obviously promoting him like the 2nd coming also gives me major concern.

In truth, the media has blacked out the real conservatives: Hunter and Thompson. They've been as active and well received by conservatives as anyone could hope for, but their message is being shunned by the powers that be.

Our party, the GOP, has been hijacked by liberals. This is the sad truth. It's not that they want to be part of the GOP, it's that they want to destroy it forever and split the party.

It's working quite well, don't you think?

Anyway, had to answer you honestly, I don't have "proof" I can turn over on request. Just years of experience and observations, and the results alarms me more than I can describe.

Oh well. We're ripping each other on these candidates now. Hopefully after the smoke clears we can all manage to unite behind a messenger that everyone can support without having bad dreams at night.

I'm with you there. Any of these candidates are better than even the most right-leaning Democratic contenders.

It could be the Dems see Huckabee as an easy target in a general election, although I think he is underestimated in that regard. I actually think he could be more effective in a general election than in the primaries, because of the reasons you mention, regarding his record in Arkansas.

But putting that aside for a minute, our party could be in big trouble with this election, because none of the most successful candidates can unite the party.

I have a hard time blaming the media about Fred Thompson. I think the reports are accurate that his campaign is lackluster. When I watch one of his speeches, I want to take a nap! This is so disappointing, because he would be the perfect candidate to unite the party, but he completely and utterly lacks any spark of energy. A huge dud.

In contrast, Huckabee is absolutely charming and another great communicator like Reagan. Irregardless of his stand on the issues, one has to admit, this guy has mojo. When considering the alternatives, then, Huckabee is very appealing for social conservatives, depending on how one goes about making sense of his past record as governor of Arkansas -- meaning, there are more or less generous interpretations of his past record.

For me, personally, I actually agree with a lot of his ideas on immigration, and personally see his views as consistent with my version of conservatism. So, that's not even close to being a deal breaker for me.

For me, the one major concern with Huckabee is his past record on taxes. His tax policies of the past don't seem to reflect the Reagan philosophy of conservatism, which has worked so well in the past. But I do like the idea of the fair tax, and can get behind him on that, although anyone has to be concerned about the realism of that prospect.

If I ditch Huckabee right now for the tax issue, which could happen between now and the election, it will be for Romney, not Thompson. Romney is showing the kind of organization, motivation, and grace that could win a general election, in my opinion. But I am very concerned about his integrity. He is very vulnerable to getting tagged as a flip-flopper like Kerry and Hillary have been. Huckabee isn't that kind of target, which is another advantage he has.

As for Rudy, his pro-life position is a dealbreaker.

So, Huck is looking pretty good right now, in my opinion. I would like to take Fred and give him Huck's charisma and charm. Then we'd have a new Reagan.
