What an incredible scene. Michael Vick in prison black and white stripes being sentenced to 23 months in jail for his role in a dog fighting operation. Federal rules say that Vick will have to serve at least 85% of his sentence. That means that the earliest he can get out of jail will be June of 2009. This means that Vick will miss a minimum of two NFL seasons .. and that is assuming that he will ever be able to get an NFL gig again.
Remember ... there are still state charges to go. If the State of Virginia pursues charges against Vick it is quite likely he would have to transfer from federal prison to state prison in June of 2009, there to spend perhaps a few more years.
What an incredible episode of self-destruction. Hundreds of millions of dollars lost, and who knows how many years in jail.
A few questions come to mind. First, why didn't Vick just locate his dog fighting operation in Georgia? Well .. he would have had to face the federal charges, but insofar as the state is concerned, dog fighting in Georgia is punished with 20 minutes of picking up garbage at the roadside and washing the Sheriff's car. After that, you're free to go.
Second: How might things have been different if the Atlanta Falcons hadn't been so dedicated to protecting Vick from the consequences of his actions. Vick handlers were ready to go at a moment's notice to repair damage, fix things, smooth over hurt feelings and make things go away whenever Vick crossed the line into thuggish behavior. What if he had faced the music with the first incident. Might he be a different person today?
OK .. here are just a few of the comments posted on the Atlanta Journal-Constitution website:
* Let me get this straight. Danny Heatley caused the death of a human being and receives probation. Vick killed dogs and received 23 months in jail. And people think this is logical?
* This is so insane and stupid. People do this all day long and not going to stop. Black men are more likely to receive tougher sentencing than any race. One last point all those who are against dog fighting and Vick, I hope you don't eat meat if you do you are contradicting yourself. Haters!!!!!!!
* Well it just proves how messed up this country is when you can get more time and be crucified for killing a vicious dog, but if you are a wife beater, child molester, or murderer, you can get off.
* Both Vick brothers are examples of an incredible waste of talent. They were given more opportunity than they earned or deserved and only squandered it. They are far from being victims. What makes this story even more sensational is that they are actually being held accountable for their actions. No wonder people are having such a hard time digesting it - it rarely happens in any walk of life. Wouldn't it be nice to think accountability is a new trend. Don't hold your breath.
Not only does he give up his freedom for 2 years but sacrifices the peak years of his athletic career...and for what? To watch dogs kill each other.
Amazing, simply amazing, how stupid he is.

What an idiot
I only eat meat from animal-on-animal combat. Bulls and pigs fight each other to the death with the loser ending up on my dinner plate. Occasionally a chicken gets stepped on too. For special occasions I schedule a no-rubber-bands tank match of lobsters and crabs.< /sarc>
Dog fighting, rooster fighting, all that sick stuff—what got peole was the killing of the loser dogs. Michael Vick has no business playing in the NFL and never did with a sick mentality like that.
“Vick handlers were ready to go at a moment’s notice to repair damage, fix things, smooth over hurt feelings and make things go away whenever Vick crossed the line into thuggish behavior.”
Ron Jaworski’s obnoxious support of Vick on MNF is nauseating. I wish ESPN would serve him a cup of STFU, but since ESPN are also supportive of Vick I doubt that’ll happen.
People always miss one of the main arguments. These people have to have other dogs for these dogs to practice mutilating. Since the local shelter is not going to furnish an unlimited supply these thugs take to picking up strays and if that is enough they just steel Fluffy out of Aunt Gertrudes back yard. These are truly despicable people.
It is insane. Murderers get lighter sentences. But poor Mike will be out of the NFL and still won’t even be able to smoke weed. Oh the humanity...
Truly this is the world, upside down.
That seems like double jeopardy. And yes...flame away. I think two years is holy plenty for dog fighting.
It all depends on where you live. I have seen assault, rape, burglary and theft charges against whites in predominately white counties in both Florida and Pennslyvania get the Big House sentencings. In Philly and Miami, they walk the streets. There are no 'over 20 prior convictions on his rap sheet' chit in counties outside most major cities.
I seen in a post on here a few days ago regarding death sentence penalties. That was a kicker for the Liberals in the North who call the South a bunch of racists. Unless I read it wrong, Florida led the nation in higher ratio of sentencing whites to death, while, Pennslyvania led the nation in sentencing Blacks.
I agree. Vick was wrong, no doubt. Too bad for him his protected-class status is trumped by an even more protected-class. Animals. They are now above people, regardless of the peoples' status.
I wonder where OJ is right now?
He was made an example of because of his celebrity, I have no problem with that.
OJ’s waiting for the next shoe to drop which will probably( if there is any justice) put him away for life.At least I hope so.
What bothers me is his sincerity...there is none.
Had he not been caught, he would still be doing it. He did not stop on his own,
Interestingly enough, he treated those dogs the way the slave owners treated blacks during the slavery years.
He should no better the value of a life even if “its just a dog.”
P.S. He sucked as quarterback and was severely overrated.
Just goes to prove : You can take the thug out of the hood, but you can’t take the thug out of the thug.
