My take on it, and I hope I won’t be misinterpreted, is that sometimes Evangelicals can be too trusting and politically naive.

In the long run, they will come around and see Huckabee for what he is. But it might be too late. Let’s hope not.

It’s a good quality, in a way. If a preacher says “I have seen the light and I stand up for Jesus,” they believe him, until the fruits of his actions prove otherwise. But such trust isn’t a good idea when evaluating someone for public office.

You want to give people the benefit of the doubt, ordinarily. But not if your daughter asks if she should marry them, or if they are running for president. In such cases you can’t afford to correct a mistake after the knot has been tied.
