Lebanon: A General of the Lebanese Army died in a bombing

BEIRUT-General of the Lebanese army, François el-Hajj, was killed in an attack that occurred Wednesday in a suburb of Beirut, told AFP an official of the security services.

Actually, it does not matter who did this. Israel will get blamed for it anyway.

Nothing on the Iris seismic chart, so it wasn’t over Mag 4.0

At least four people, including a Lebanese army general, have died in an explosion near the presidential palace on the outskirts of Beirut.

Dozens were also injured in the blast in the Christian town of Baabda.

Gen Francois al-Hajj was chief of operations when Lebanon’s army fought Islamic militants in Nahr al-Bared refugee camp earlier this year.

It comes a day after a parliamentary vote to elect a new president was postponed for the eighth time.

The move prolongs the deadlock between the pro-Syrian backers of former president Emile Lahoud and the pro-Western government of Fouad Siniora.

Sounds like Hezbollah (with the backing of Syria) killing off Christians, again.

So this is what... the equivalent of breaking news because a car was stolen in Detroit?

Sounds like them targeting this general, actually. One unclear report seemed to imply that he was a presidential candidate - anybody know if this is the case?

Syria

Hezzies

Al Qaeda

The gentleman was Head of Operations when they took down that AQ camp.

I just went to a foreign newspaper site to read more about this. It does seem as if it could be anybody. I read that if the current head of the army should be elected president, Hajj was expected to take over as army chief. I hope they had a back-up plan.

This type of targeted political killing is particularly ominous because of the situation in Lebanon now.

No more than usual...its been going on for YEARS...and I mean YEARS. Syria pulls the strings always has....sounds cynical I know...but its the truth....until someone takes out the Syrian regime....it will continue.
