The three main minorities in the United States -- blacks, Hispanics and Asians -- have little trust for each other and hold prejudiced views about Americans of different ethnic origins to their own, a poll showed Wednesday.
"This extraordinary poll reveals some unflattering realities that exist in America today," said Sandy Close, head of new America Media (NAM) which sponsored the poll together with ethnic media groups.
Forty-four percent of Hispanics and 47 percent of Asians are "afraid of African-Americans because they are responsible for most of the crime," the survey of 1,105 adults drawn from the three ethnic groups showed.
More than half of black Americans polled and 46 percent of Hispanics said Asian business owners do not treat them with respect.
And half of African-Americans said Latin American immigrants "are taking jobs, housing and political power away from the black community."
Hispanics and Asians, whose populations are made up mainly of immigrants, were positive about the American dream, saying that those who work hard in the United States reap the rewards of their toil.
In contrast, more than 60 percent of African-Americans dismissed the American dream as not working for them.
All three ethnic groups viewed white Americans in a more favorable light than they did members of another minority.
Sixty-one percent of Hispanics, 54 percent of Asians and 47 percent of African-Americans said they would rather do business with whites than members of the other two groups.
"The poll reaffirms that while race relations between ethnic groups and whites grab the headlines, there are also serious racial problems between minority groups in America," said Sergio Bendixen, an expert on Hispanic and multilingual polling.
"Blacks feel they are left out of the American Dream and are being displaced by newcomers, and each group buys into the negative stereotypes about the other two," he said.
The three minority groups did agree that the United States would be a better place if blacks, Asians and Hispanics held more authoritative positions at universities, in business, media and government.
They also said they believe racial tensions in the United States will ease over the next 10 years.
That is going to make some liberal heads explode...
Where can I apply for victim status? Or is it just something I claim to be?
In line with what I hear from Hispanic and Asian friends and colleagues.
I also believe that there is tons of resentment, particularly among the black underclass, that they are being passed by Asian and Hispanic immigrants, just as they were passed over by southern and eastern European immigrants 80 years ago.
What amazes me is that such sentiments are common among more educated black folk as well, in my experience.
Hopefully, Marshall Tito can hold us all together.
I'm only glad that the taxpayers didn't pony up for this investigation.
Like your old drinking buddy Ray Nagin?
Simple:
Hey Jack...Keep your hands off my (entitlement) stack.
It should make those in Democratic Leadership very happy, because those in leadership are largely white.
Hey, is it racist of me to notice that Asians are more racist against blacks than most whites are?
Didn't talk about race relations with Mayor Ray that night. Talked about city government and what were the best seafood restaurants in the area, from what I recall.
Reminds me of a racist rant I once had to listen to from a colleague from Hong Kong who did not realize that he had moved very close to a (predominantly black) housing project.
I’m shocked I tell you!.....I thought all the tax money we spent on the liberalization of the public school system would have ereased this very un-P.C. thinking! It must be underneath the surface lurking....How are you going to get rid of it, you great liberal educators?...L.O.L!...(like nobody new that it’s cultural all over the world!)
In a related poll, a majority of Americans believe grass is green and the sky is blue.
I feel fine with a _______ man mowing my lawn, a _______ man cleaning my clothes, and a ________ man doing my taxes while I watch a ________ man play professional sports.
African-Americans will have to adopt a different attitude to avoid becoming totally irrelevant in this country. The Hispanic population has surpassed the A-A population, and the Asian numbers will eventually be larger than that of the A-A population. Do you think either of those groups will care about the standing of A-A's? I think not; they will simply continue to PURSUE the American Dream, rather than demand that it come to them the way that A-A's have been doing for decades.
If they think they're being displaced now, wait'll the Hispanic vote is larger and more important to the Democrats than the black vote.
The three minority groups did agree that the United States would be a better place if blacks, Asians and Hispanics held more authoritative positions at universities, in business, media and government.
That would only be true if they got those positions on merit, not on the basis of affirmative action.
They also said they believe racial tensions in the United States will ease over the next 10 years.
Tragically, nothing could be further from the truth.
A couple of generations later, we were all related by marriage and united by the ultimate wish of our ancestors to become Americans. We did all become Americans, and gained some great family recipes on the way (well, from the Italians anyway.)
More liberal hand-wringing, since that "becoming an American" thingy became akin to a hate crime.
The liberals and their glorious social engineering have warped the natural progression and set up permanent greivance groups. Idiots with a voice far beyond their worth.
I've had it up to here.
LOL.
On the other hand, I thought it was interesting that the black community in Houston and Pasadena, Texas, has taken the side of the criminal illegal alien robbers who Joe Horn shot, rather than siding with their law-abiding American fellow citizens. The illegal aliens were black Hispanics from Colombia, I think, leading me to believe that for the black community in that part of the world, the ties that bind {or blind} are racial, not national or ethnic. Now poor Joe is getting death threats from the black community.
