Both the ECUSA and the PCUSA have a national tactic of scorched earth litigation. The most notable current litigation involves a number of former Episcopal churches in northern Virginia who followed the process set out by the local bishop, and were still sued. (They sue not only the corporate body, but some individual members of the church).
Also of note is the litigation surrounding the former PCUSA church in Tulsa, Oklahoma (Kirk of the Hills) that left for the Evangelical Presbyterian church. That litigation has been ongoing for a little over a year.
Two Presbyterian churches in California appear to have settled litigation this week, at a cost of some $600,000. The former Episcopal church in Savannah, Ga, was sued a few weeks ago.
So your 'just say no' strategy is unlikely to work.
I can dig out some more litigation related info, if you need it.
obviously leaving is problematical. why cant they take back the church. That was my point. Dont leave but fight to regain control.
