Bush delays embassy move
JTA ^ | December 14, 2007

President Bush extended a delay on moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem for another six months.

"I hereby determine that it is necessary to protect the national security interests of the United States to suspend for a period of six months" the embassy move mandated in a 1995 law, Bush said Wednesday in a memorandum to Condoleezza Rice, the U.S. secretary of state. "My administration remains committed to beginning the process of moving our embassy to Jerusalem."

Bush and his predecessor, President Clinton, have routinely exercised their prerogative to delay the move, citing the difficulties such an action would impose on Israeli-Palestinian peacemaking.

How about telling the Palestinians to bugger off and just move it?

Jews > Palis

At the risk of hi-jacking a thread, how's that wall coming?

The embassy is in Jerusalem for all intents and purpose.
I was just there doing some business.

So in 12 years there has never been a time when it would have been possible to move the embassy to that nation’s capital? (And we’re even talking about West Jerusalem here, not East Jerusalem.)

Can we open a church in Saudi Arabia? How about Kuwait?

Ooops! Sorry. The number one priority for out State Dept. is not upsetting the Islamic world. . .

Maybe one day we’ll grow a little backbone. . .

Maybe he (or Condi) intends to pressure the Israelis to give Jerusalem to the Palis then open a totally separate embassy there. That way we can have one in Tel Aviv and one in Jerusalem. There, problem solved /sarcasm

Bad move Mr. President; bad move. This should have been done 12 years ago.

You were at the Consulate General in Jerusalem. The Embassy and the Ambassador are very much still in Tel Aviv.

The are US Consulates in Tijuana, Juarez, Hermosillo, etc., but I'm pretty sure those operations don't replace the Embassy in Mexico City for all intents and purposes.

One more disappointment from an Administration I had such high hopes for seven years ago. Bush will never do anything that might offend his Saudi or Mexican buddies. Ever since Reagan left office, successive administrations have more and more seemed to treat our enemies better than our friends, at least when it comes to Israel, securing our borders, or trade imbalances with Red China.

My guess is that there will be no backbone until we are energy independent. We seem to be at the altar of oil, making all sorts of ugly sacrifices there.

Why we keep kissing the ass of the Palestinians, the Middle East’s version of Welfare Queens, is something I’ll never understand.

I thought the sight of them dancing in the streets with joy on 9/11 would have put an end to this.....

I just called the White House Comment Line (1-202-456-1111) and spent three minutes describing the darkening legacy of one who looked so bright.

Who styles himself a born-again Christian but is the obsequious servant of those who would kill us all.

He and Rice again defer to the Palestinians who elected Hamas the terrorist group sworn to destroy the Zionist enemy, defers to those who raise their children to kill Jews while bullying our democratic ally in the region.

Who ostensibly fights a war on terror but serves the great purveyor of terrorism, the financer of jihadi-recruiting madrassas.

If he does not remove the regime in Tehran the effort in Iraq is writ in sand.

Refusing to maintain our Embassy in Israel’s capital on land which has been part of Israel since 1948 is simply a denial of Israel’s sovereignty, much like making Israeli’s enter the Annapolis conferance by the service entrance in deference to Arab sensibilities.

Or perhaps there is a feeling that the pali’s will riot and kill Jews if we move our embassy there. Should we take that risk to make a phony show of sovereignty to a nation that still cannot define where it’s own borders begin and end?

Please resume blaming America for Israel’s policies and failures.

Israel defined her borders in 1948, declared Jerusalem it's capital in 1949, after the truce. Our Embassy site has been in Israel since the birth of the nation, was British for 30 years or so before that, Turkins for a few centuries.

The problem isn't Israel's inability to define her borders, rather the Bush administrations apparent unwillingness to recognize them.

GWB made the decision based on the risk to America and American security, not any concern that the palistinians will kill Jews.

Can you post a link validating this statement?

What the heck are Isreal's border then? What is their OFFICIAL border as defined by them? Israel doesn't have a clue as to what they are doing with the pali's. If they did, the FR defenders wouldn't be going back 50 YEARS everytime Israel needs defending. The USA is not the problem. At some point Israel is going to be forced to come up with a defense strategy that doesn't use America as their mercenary army and doesn't demand that America shoulder the burden. They lost my permanent support with the Lebanese failure and betrayal.
