(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Rudy Giuliani is holding on to the top spot in the national race for the Republican Party’s presidential nomination in the United States, according to a poll by YouGov/Polimetrix released by The Economist. 26 per cent of respondents would back the former New York City mayor in a 2008 primary.

Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee is second with 23 per cent, followed by actor and former Tennessee senator Fred Thompson with 13 per cent, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney with 11 per cent, and Arizona senator John McCain also with 10 per cent. Whew, a whole 265 voters whose names they had from the lists of the 2004 primary. Wouldn't be betting the farm on that one. Let's just hope the Republican party hasn't attracted any new members eh?

Primaries haven't started yet, everything is fluid. Last month the Huckster was on the bottom. Im still optimistic for FRed.

Yep, funny how FReepers cite these polls as the gospel.

By and large, these polls are a complete sham.

“I take this poll with a grain of salt”

I take all polls that only have a few hundred participants with a grain of salt.

At this point, McCain and Rudy are the only canidates with real name rec when it comes to people who don’t actively follow politics. Thompson is “The old guy from Die Hard 2” and most think Romney is a TV anchorman.

Question is if these polls are true (which they're not), where are the people coming that have donated $30,000 in 3 minutes?!? Yes, you read that right. At 12AM on the dot the number was 11,552,000 and some change. Excuse me, five minutes and it just crossed $11,600,000. That's $10,000 a minute

Is it only me ? or does anyone else, when they read these headlines, have to stop and force themselves to remember that Giuliani is running as a Republican ?

If this is the end of the “Huckaboom”, then (if I may take a page from Governor Huckleberry’s book, and drag my religion into the conversation) thank God for it.
