Petition Congress to Reinstate $3 Billion in Border Fence Funds
Numbers USA ^ | December 15, 2007

Posted on 12/16/2007 10:21:23 AM PST by 3AngelaD

Without explanation, Congress has stripped away $3 billion in desperately needed funds to build the Border Fence that it approved last year and to provide for other border security. That's right—without telling the public, Congress is pulling the plug on the U.S.-Mexico Border Fence that it voted for with such enthusiasm last year (just before they asked voters to re-elect them)....Time is critical. Congress will finalize this funding question before Christmas! Will you take a minute to sign it right now?

An amendment submitted by Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, for the Department of Homeland Security 2008 budget would gut the already-approved Secure Fence Act, which was adopted with the promise hundreds of miles of physical fencing would help secure the U.S. border with Mexico.

But the budget bill now in a conference committee contains the Hutchinson amendment, and it simply would drop the requirement for the security project.

"After the Secure Fence Act of 2006 was signed into law by President Bush in October 2006, millions of Americans had a right to expect a double-layer fence would be built along our border with Mexico," Elliott said. "Now, if the Hutchison amendment gets signed into law that fence is never going to be built."

Could it be because someone has the common sense to realize the “border fence” is just a scam by Gilchrist, and it’s a fiscal blackhole that everyone knows won’t keep illegals out?

You’re going to spend more money building, maintaining, manning and staffing the “fence” than illegals take in welfare entitlements, and considering many illegals come here legally and overstay, or slip in on plane and in cars and trucks, it won’t keep them out.

The “border fence” is Big Dig II. It’s just a scam to rile up people and make it look like someone’s doing something, when all it would do is blow billions of taxpayer dollars on a do-nothing project.

A fence is only a single line of the multi layered defense that’s needed. Alone it’s all but worthless but combined with workplace verification, real punishment for those who hire illegals and denial of services to illegals it becomes very effective.

WE warned you. WE warned all you people who thought they were being so smart staying home in Nov 2006 this was going to happen.

You got what you didn’t vote for. Actions, or inactions, have consequences children. Elections matter

Oh, dear. You really need to do some reading up on this. Have you ever been to the border and watched them swarm over an inadequate fence? Have you ever visited a site where the new fence is installed? I have. Where the new fences have been built, they work. But we need to build enough of the fence to reach effective critical mass to keep them out. The fence is not long enough yet. I suspect you are operating on late 80s information, as are many. That said, you are right about the visa overstays, and which need to be curtailed as well, and we need to impose employer sanctions on businesses that employ illegal aliens. But if fences don’t work, why is there a big one around the White House? If fences don’t work, are we being scammed into building them around prisons?

“WE warned you. WE warned all you people who thought they were being so smart staying home in Nov 2006 this was going to happen.”

And you are STILL wrong about all that, Johnnie. What about Lou Barletta, stong against illegal immigraiton who got the dem and rep nod for his office? The anti-illegal candidates fared better than the open border advocates, but then YOU knew that. If Hayworth had voted for border security in HR 4437, he would have been reelected as well.

But you have to keep the money circulating amongst the masses in order for them to have a few bucks to return back to the Congress criters to divide up again and give back via the tax scheme. And so it goes on and on, over and over.

Republicans listened to the Antis concerns and got them a fence, the Democrats defunded it.

No matter how hard people try to rationalize or delude themselves about their mistaken past position, they cannot change those facts.

With Republicans in charge, the Antis had a seat at the table and got things done, with the Demos they got NOTHING.

That’s funny, the Duncan Hunter border fence has proven quite effective.

A fence is only the first necessary step in securing the border, it is not a cure-all. Those of us that live on the border know this. Without a fence I do not believe the border can be secured.

I would be more than happy to spend the same money on a fence instead of giveaways and other costs (jails, etc) for illegals. If it did end up costing the same, I would still think it was a bargain- but I believe the fence will be cheaper than what illegals cost us now.

In my congressional district we threw out pro amnesty RINO Schwarz and replaced him with anti amnesty conservative Walberg who was endorsed by the Minuteman PAC.

” With Republicans in charge, the Antis had a seat at the table and got things done”

Do you remember being called a racist by our esteemed REPUBLICAN President? I do.

Both Republicans and Democrats were very much behind the amnesty bills last summer.

The only reason the ‘Antis’ won the battle this summer is because we threatened near civil war. It had nothing to do with any help from the Republicans.

You really think so? Then list all the substantive legislation the Dims have passed this year and gotten signed into law.

As I said many times before and after the 2006 elections, Republicans are never more conservative then when they’re in the minority. That has proven true once again on 2007.

Well for you Paulbots with welded shut minds, I will explain something to that seems to escape them

Amazing how people who scream about the Consitition in every other sentence are so totally ignroant of how our system works.

Who authored the bill is irrelevent. It who voted for it. And the votes for that bill are more then 85% Democrat

Always amazed how the 100%ers continually cut off their own political nose’s to spite their faces then whine hysterically when their actions have negative consequences.
