Forever Joyful
READ:
1 Timothy 6:6-16Though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you . . . might become rich. 2 Corinthians 8:9
Wall Street Journal columnist Jonathan Clements offered his readers Nine Tips for Investing in Happiness. Interestingly, one of his suggestions was precisely the same as that given in the favorite old hymn by Johnson C. Oatman, Count Your Many Blessings. Clements urges us not to brood over the riches of our neighbors but to focus on the many blessings we actually do possess. Thats wise counsel, provided that we realize our spiritual wealth in Jesus is immeasurably more valuable than any material possessions.
God didnt give us the Bible as a guidebook for happiness. Yet it tells us how we can be eternally joyful and how we can experience joy on our way to that eternal happiness. So its enlightening to compare biblical truth with common-sense advice.
Godliness with contentment is great gain, Paul wrote to Timothy (1 Tim. 6:6). The apostle wanted his protégé to understand that being grateful for the basics of life would help keep him from the trap of covetousness.
So lets focus on the wonders of Gods grace, training ourselves to make a spirit of gratitude pervade our lives. Thats the way to experience joy today and to be forever joyful.
When you look at others with their lands and gold,
Think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold;
Count your many blessingsmoney cannot buy
Your reward in heaven nor your home on high. Oatman
Count your many blessings and youll soon lose count.

Aloha Night Owl!
Hunting for Christmas presents before Christmas Day was a tradition we had as kids.......and it seems to have carried over to the newer generations.

A PRAYER OF PROTECTION
The light of God surround you The love of God enfold you The power of God protect you The presence of God watch over you Wherever you are, God is, And all is well. Amen.
BLESS THIS HOUSE Bless this house O Lord we pray; Make it safe by night and day;
Bless these walls so firm and stout, Keeping want and trouble out:
Bless the roof and chimneys tall, Let thy peace lie over all;
Bless this door, that it may prove ever open to joy and love.
Bless these windows shining bright, Letting in God's heav'nly light;
Bless the hearth a'blazing there, with smoke ascending like a prayer;
Bless the folk who dwell within, keep them pure and free from sin;
Bless us all that we may be Fit O Lord to dwell with thee;
Bless us all that one day we May dwell O Lord with thee.

Christmas traditions.....on the morning of 12/25—get up decidedly earlier than I usually do, go downstairs, open our Advent calendar, see what’s in the stockings, plug in the tree lights, put on the Christmas music, and then open the presents under the tree. And instead of a real breakfast it usually ends up being the Godiva truffles that I get every year :)

Mrs.SR and I get up Early before everyone else. I shuffle into the Kitchen turning on the Mantle Christmas lights and the Tree lights on my way to turn the coffee maker on.
Mrs.SR grabs the big Christmas bell and wakes all the rest of the house.
By now I’ve got the Lemon Sour Cream Christmas Coffee Cake that I made Christmas Eve sliced and the Apple Juice poured.
As all the pajama clad ones (for now just adult duaghter) enter out come the cameras, coffee gets poured, juice and coffee cake servings picked up.
Now the fun begins as presents get distributed one at a time to camera flashes, ohs and ahs as the gifts are unwrapped.
When all is done and under the tree is bare all go off to their rooms and get dressed.
That done, now comes more fun as I start cooking for the Christmas meal while Mrs.SR and all others set to work cleaning up the living room of all the torn Christmas wrappings.
Soon the house is full of the smells of Christmas Ham Cooking, Twice Baked Potatoes, Yams, Yeast Rolls, and Broccoli Cheese Casserole baking. Oh almost forgot, another pot of coffee going.
