the political consequences of a declaration of independence could be far reaching, says Dusan Reljic of the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) in Berlin.
"Any kind of unilateral declaration of independence by Kosovo violates international law," Reljic told SPIEGEL ONLINE. "And the UN and international law are going to be damaged by a unilateral declaration that is not opposed by the UN."
"History does not stop the day the US recognizes the independence of Kosovo. A new phase, even more complicated phase might start," Reljic says. "We are not seeing any kind of endgame in the Balkans ... it could throw back the region for many years."

...it could throw back the region for many years." It could have a "blow back" on many regions in the world. Where should I start (?): Taiwan, Spain, Russia (Chechnya), Canada (Quebec), South Ossestia, let the list continue...

Let us not forget the lesson this will teach the illegal immigrants who want to “reconquer” Aztlan!

And this is how U.S. support to Kosovo Islamofascists will end.

Except that long line of evacuees will be Americans...in our own homeland...fleeing the approaching armies of the Caliphate.
Either that, or Californians fleeing the UN-recognized independent state of Aztlan.

Russia (Chechnya) is probably a bad example. It seems to be a widespread misunderstanding that Chechnya dreams about independence from Russia - in reality, it is probably more about what US and British governments would like to see (and even they would want it just for the sole purpose of pissing off Putin
) Independence of Chechnya in 2008 ? I would not bet a penny against $100 for that to happen. On the other hand separating of South Osetia, Abhazia, and perhaps some other former Soviet Union territories (Prednestrovie? Krym?) from where they are now and reuniting with Russia are more realistic scenarios.
So in a way, Russia will most likely gain if the precedent of unilateral independence will be set in Kosovo. (Even though Russian people will not be very happy
)
I am still puzzled by reaction of the US and other western governments on supporting Albanian separatists in the first place and now (with a new US president) moving forward in the same direction (despite the fact that in 1999 UN agreed that Kosovo shall not be independent)
