Is sly ole' Huckster Clintonizing the GOP?
American Thinker ^ | December 18, 2007 | James Lewis

Why is Mike Huckabee such a mean-seeming guy?  All my neck hairs are rising, like a growling puppy.

Well, look at Huckabee's media bombs -- just the headlines stories he's dropped "by accident." According to a long New York Times interview with Zev Chafets, Huck wrote in one of his books that "He considers liberalism to be a cancer on Christianity." So why is the liberal press suddenly talking up his candidacy? It's obviously not because they want him in the White House.

Writes Chafetz,

"I asked Huckabee, who describes himself as the only Republican candidate with a degree in theology, if he considered Mormonism a cult or a religion. ‘'I think it's a religion,' he said. ‘I really don't know much about it. ...Don't Mormons,' he asked in an innocent voice, 'believe that Jesus and the devil are brothers?'
We don't know if Governor Huckabee went wink, wink, nudge, nudge, hint, hint to the New York Times reporter, speaking in his "innocent voice," but he sure got his message across.

Then a few days later the Governor dropped another stink bomb, guaranteed to set liberals cheering. In a candidate's article in the liberal magazine Foreign Affairs, he wrote that  "The Bush administration's arrogant bunker mentality has been counterproductive at home and abroad."

Wow! "Arrogant!" "Bunker mentality!" Now you know that the hate-Bush Left is going to pick that one sentence out of a long article. It's going to make headlines in the Washington Post. And it did.

These are not an accidental Molotov cocktails Governor Huckabee keeps hurling. The Left loves them because they can open a split in the GOP and keep reminding people of the Mormon issue, just when Romney was hoping it would fade away. If Huck wins and Romney loses in Iowa, it would confirm for the Left that the GOP is full of bigots.

In fact, in September it was Bill Clinton himself who talked up Huckabee's chances to the media. According to the New York Times, Clinton told George Stephanopoulos of ABC News that Huckabee was the only Republican ‘‘dark horse that's got any kind of chance.'' Bill Clinton and Stepanopoulos have a long relationship, remember? And now the media are just falling all over themselves, trying to make Huckabee  famous as fast as possible.

Charles Krauthammer points out that Huckabee's commercials have been making a sly slam at Romney's Mormon faith. Krauthammer is outraged  because of the way religious splits can poison American politics. We thought John F. Kennedy put all that behind us. But the press and Left are stirring up religious differences again, for their own benefit.

What Bill Clinton, ABC, the New York Times and the Wapo seem to think is that in the end, Huck can only help the Left. Americans don't vote for preachers for president. We have too many different creeds to build a voting majority on just one denomination.

In the presidential election Hillary would easily beat Huckabee, but she would have a much harder time against Fred, Rudy, McCain or Mitt. The Democrats and media might be talking up Huck's chances of knocking Mitt out of the race by appealing to religious ... differences. Then Hillary would only face Fred or Rudy or McCain.

I don't know if Mike Huckabee is playing to the big media deliberately. But it doesn't really matter.

All I can say is, Iowa Caucusers, please don't cut off your nose to spite your face.

The Business Conservatives have nobody but themselves to blame for Mike Huckabee. They kept taking the social conservatives for granted and thought they could play them for fools every four years. Now that attitude is coming back to bite them and they are panicking.

Huckabee is a malicious little goober.

Would somebody — anybody — tell me how to copy the picture of the Huckabees, in slimming vertical stripes, that is on Drudge right now, and place it in a “caption this picture” thread. I’ve tried the right-click and copy button, but I can’t get the “paste” function.

In Bill Clinton's case, I think it's called being a sociopath (surface warmth and likeability, below the surface nasty and capable of anything, including crimes that would have sent anyone else to prison).

I wouldn't call Huckabee a sociopath on the basis of my limited exposure to him, but the pattern so far is troubling--genial and likeable on the surface, but capable of tricks like these. He does have a good sense of humor but he would be a disaster if he was nominated.

The third Arkansas pol (in the sense that he was born there--but never held elective office) is Wesley Clark, who is just nuts...and whose only possible road to the White House would be to be elected VP and then take over if the President died.

What does it matter that the Huckster says he is a good Christian and pro-life when Huckabee will turn the U.S,. into a socialist state where we will all be starving?

Huckabee Begs For New Taxes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pLOC4krZI4

Huckabee Caught Lying About His Tax Hikes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYrGlfkvRV0&feature=related

Huckabee is a pro-illegal, pro-Amnesty, tax raising, big government loving, socialist/liberal, violent criminal pardoning, terrorist appeasing, false prophet. In other words Huckabee is really a Democrat.

Under no circumstances will I ever vote for this liberal/communist con man.

The Huckster Huckabee or Hillary will let in hundreds of millions of 3rd world socialist illegals.

The Huckster or Hillary will surrender to Iran and let Iran build a nuclear arsenal.

The Huckster or Hillary will raise taxes and increase the size of government putting the U.S. on the road to socialism which will destroy our way of life, destroy our economy, destroy our civilization.

If you think I'm exaggerating look at Huckabee's record and into the dangers of socialism.

But hey , the idiot Huckster lies and says he is pro-life so that makes all of this ok huh?

Thanks for the links! I just emailed these to several pastors and others who are leaning Huckabee. Hopefully they’ll change their tune once they find out what a trojan horse he really is.

Yes. He's a slick talker just like Bubba. That's what we Arkansas FReepers have been trying to tell everyone since the Huckster announced his candidacy. His political actions in office and what he says on the campaign trail are two different animals.

The Huckster would make Bush's compassionate conservatism look like Scrooge when it comes to pandering to illegals. Just ask anyone living in northwest Arkansas. If anyone wants Tyson Foods to run the country's immigration policy for four years, then Huck's your man.

I’m confused as to why people think the other candidates would do so great against Hillary when they can’t even beat a guy with such obvious flaws as Huck in a primary.

He does have a good sense of humor ....

Maybe he can earn a living as the genial host of a late night show.

Or he could be the new Ed McMahon.

About 23% of the Republican primary electorate is evangelical Christian. That, not coincidentally, is Huckabee’s support level. Non-evangelical Republicans are split among the remaining candidates, which is why they’re trailing Huckabee.

In the general election, Huckabee’s big problem is that he doesn’t appeal to the rest of the Republican coalition which will have to pull together to beat the Dems. If a few million Mormon voters, for instance, stay home, vote third party or even Democrat, Huckabee’s toast.

“trojan horse”

VERY good term for Huckabee. He uses the shell of social conservatism to come into the republican tent. All the while being chock full of leftism. Democrats aren’t smart enough to have thought this one up in their greatest dreams.

The media sees him as another Clinton and therefore will only publish polls which show him leading. They would rather have him instead of Hillary. Kills two birds with one stone.
