I feel “demonized” as a Christian in a Country where public prayer is no longer permitted in public schools
as it was before the Warren Court (unless of course you are Muslims), where Christmas Nativity creches and trees are banned from public property, where people are trying to remove “In God We Trust” from our coins, and “one Nation, under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance, and the Ten Commandments from a Courthouse.

America was always a Country with no national establishment of religion, but it was never before a Country where Atheism appears to have established itself and the reverence for the Deity Who gave us a moral code and made us great is no longer tolerated.

The Founding Father believed that human rights come from God, not the State, and hence only God could abridge those rights. Remove God from the equation and you have what happened in France - a flawed, failed, bloody mess based on rights that where granted by the State.

One presidential hopeful is a preacher,

I must've completely missed the Left complaining about Reverend Al Sharpton's presidential run.

I tend to agree with you.

The very notion of an atheistic community belies the rationality of their position.

Are they now to have halls of assembly, as well?

Psalm 107:2

2Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;

Psalm 40:10

I do not hide your righteousness in my heart; I speak of your faithfulness and salvation. I do not conceal your love and your truth from the great assembly.

Mark 8:38

If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father's glory with the holy angels."

One thing is for sure. We all, all, better analyse the ISSUES that will impact our nation. Not just their personal faith, religious doctrine or saintlyness ala the Empty Suit Obama or The Huck. And I am a pastor-college teacher writing this! That is why my first choice is Rudy because he can beat the Dems and be a strong Commander in Chief. But, I will support any Goper because every Dem is a socialist pacifist.

But if they don’t believe in demons, how could they feel demonized?

Did George Washington pray in public? Did he openly profess to be a Christian?”

George Washington attended church with his wife Martha, who was a believing Christian, but never accepted communion. Arguments rage on whether George was a Christian or not, with conflicting evidence presented. Personally I think he was a Deist.

...And I am a pastor-college teacher writing this! That is why my first choice is Rudy ...

Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. - Psalm 2

Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two edged sword in their hand; To execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people; To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron; To execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all his saints. Praise ye the LORD.- Psalm 149

Pastor - I assume you are a Christian, you might want to reconsider your vocation or at least what God says about the civil magistrate and His people. God holds his shepherds, pastors, to account for their shepherding.

As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely because my flock became a prey, and my flock became meat to every beast of the field, because there was no shepherd, neither did my shepherds search for my flock, but the shepherds fed themselves, and fed not my flock; Therefore, O ye shepherds, hear the word of the LORD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against the shepherds; and I will require my flock at their hand, and cause them to cease from feeding the flock; neither shall the shepherds feed themselves any more; for I will deliver my flock from their mouth, that they may not be meat for them. Ezekiel 34

“Atheism is literally the absence of faith or religion.”

No. Atheism is the belief that there is no God. Atheism is a religion in its own right.

Agnosticism is the absence of religious belief. While atheists claim to know that there is no God, agnostics say they just do not know.

How does someone who doesn’t believe in demons feel demonized?

Kinda like an ob/gyn specializing in late term abortions.

I know someone who specifically got her ob/gyn doctorate in order to perform abortions.

The sick thing is, the "officiator" at her wedding referred to her as "a healer".

I about vomitted.

“I personally am not religious. I do not feel “demonized” at all.”

I’m not religious at all. I am at least agnostic, possibly atheist, depending on which definition you use. I do feel demonized sometimes on this forum, based on the comments I read about atheists - and not just activisist anti-religion atheists, but all atheists. Apparently we’re all potential mass-murdering commies with no basis for or claim to morality. I’d just like to be judged on my behaviour, not my beliefs - just like I do for other people.

"They're very disconcerted," said Darren Sherkat, an atheist sociology professor specializing in religion at Southern Illinois University

What's with that?

Atheism is a terribly sad doctrine that offers zero hope.
