Two members of the Senate Judiciary Committee sent a letter to the NFL on Wednesday threatening to reconsider the league's antitrust exemption if it doesn't make games on the NFL Network available to more viewers.

From what I've read (NFL website), the fault is with cable companies, not the the NFL Network. Cable companies have placed NFL Network in digital tiers that the viewer has to pay additional money to receive.

For example, Cox Cable offers the NFL Network only on the Sports Digital Tier which costs the viewer around $10.00.

Satellite companies have NFL on their more general group of offerings.

I have Cox and get NFLN as part of the digital package. The $10/month fee covers the converter and the programming. All told, I pay $75/month for 2 basic and my digital packs. Not too bad from where I sit.

Problem is no Big Ten Network, for all the same reasons.

That only works if you have digital cable. Now if you don't have digital cable, and want the pay the $10.00, you have to upgrade your cable to digital, and Cox, Comcast et al, offer that up for how much? And in addition to that, how much to rent, or buy if even possible, the number of digital boxes required for how many TV's?

The $$$ add up.

You are correct.. the fault is NOT with the NFL.

The NFL Network is freely available on the Direct and Dish Networks. However, on Comcast Cable last season it was a FREE channel. This season you have to pay a subscribtion fee to watch. This FEE was imposed by Comcast, NOT the NFL.

I'll consider paying a fee if it has NO commercial interruptions. But, paying a fee and then still having to watch 30 minutes of conmmercials in a game.. NO thanks.

So the Cable Companies should put the channel on Basic and Expanded and let every one of their subscribers pay?

Why should 100% of subscribers pay for something that 20% of the cable company’s subscribers watch?

Jerry Jones wants more money per sub for his channel than ESPN gets.

I’d like to be able to watch whatever game I want, and not be force to watch the teams in a local market. In the SF Bay Area I’m stuck with rules that only allow the Raiders and 49’ers to be seen. If the NFLTV wants to grow it needs to make every game available everywhere. The teams should not be allowed to own me, I am not a slave to the raiders or 49’ers. I am a Free an Independent Chicago Bear fan. Just because I live out of state should not determine what game I have to watch.
