This column is hard to read because it's hard to tell where the Juan Cole quote ends and Rod Dreher's word begin!

The only way I know what he meant is from the context in English, because Huckenfreude does not mean “fear of Huck,” but would mean “Hucken-joy.”
On German freeways, “Ausfahrt” means exit. Sounds like something else. :)
