I think that is why McCain did okay in polls a year or so before the primary season. The samples didn’t separate people by party and a lot of Democrats said they liked McCain. His pandering to the Left was a miscalculation and he can’t blame Bush this time like he did after 2000.

Yes, that is true. The media polls especially are sloppy in letting non-core Republican voters ‘represent’ the voters for these polls. So McCain and Guiliani get over-represented in these.
The media boosts and endorsements only amplify the point.
