Definition: Hatred - Intense dislike or ill will. One of the synonyms for intense is passion.

Do you feel CC has an intense dislike for the church based upon her posts? My opinion is yes. I think that opinion would be shared by many here.

I know you are shooting for logic here but the above is a failure. One statement does not lead to another statement and therefore to a conclusion. I'm sure there is a latin term for what you just did but I don't know what it is, I'm not an educated person, just an old farm boy who knows bull shit when he smells it.

Incidentally, my sincere prayers go out for ssgt. Matt Maupin. He’s already a hero in my eyes.

I respect that opinion. Your opinion might differ however if she was lambasting your church w/ flasehoods & mis/disinformation as she does ours. Perspective is a touchy thing.

"...they just couldn’t hold the priesthood until ‘79"

Isn't this just a bit of an understatement of the problem this doctrine presented to Blacks?

On the otherhand, what is sometimes seen as sexist regarding the prohibition of women as priests (or pastors in some Protestant churches) is not a belief that has an impact on the "eternal" destiny of women.

Nor is the lack of priesthood for blacks! That's the great thing about the church. ALL have an equal opportunity to inherit all the Father hath & Celestial glory. That means the billions that have lived here w/o the priesthood or who have never even heard of Jesus Christ, let alone had the opportunity to hear His gospel & accept Him as their Savior for that matter.

Thanks for the opportunity to make that point. Merry Christmas to you & yours.

Blacks also could not participate in important rituals held in the LDS Temples, such as the endowment ritual and temple marrages, called sealings. These ceremonies are important ceremonies in the LDS faith, and denying blacks the opportunity to participate meant that blacks could not enjoy the full spiritual fullfillment of the LDS faith. The fact that blacks could not participate in sealing ceremonies was especially detrimental to the black's afterlife, since sealings are required to bind a husband and wife together, and bind parents to their children for eternity. Marriages that are sealed in a Sealing ceremony are considered to be eternal marriages, whereas non-sealed marriages are considered non-eternal, and are considered to lapse upon death. Black women were affected by this policy, since LDS faith requires a wife to be called into heaven by her husband. However, for a husband to call his wife into heaven, they must have been sealed in a Temple ceremony.

Are you sure there were no eternal implications for Blacks?

“Are you sure there were no eternal implications for Blacks?”

Absolutely sure! Your assertions are very true, right up to that last question. ALL the temple ordinances that are necessary can, have been, & will be performed for those that didn’t have the opportunity here in this life. That includes those for whom you question.

The same principles that apply for the billions of Chinese who have never heard of Jesus Christ, apply for the blacks that never had the opportunity to be sealed in the temple in this life back in the day. They will receive those ordinances just as well as the Chinese, etc.

Great questions. Doesn’t the plan of salvation make so much sense? How else could a loving God, who is no respecter of persons, show mercy for those that had never heard of Him or had the chance to receive all the ordinances? He loves us ALL, & wants us ALL to return. He has thus provided a way.

Back in the mid 70’s, before the Lord lifted the restrictions for the blacks, I ran into one who said he did not care where he was in line, as long as he was in the right line.

I, for one, find that the words used by many, including cc show a great disrespect for our values. The words do not convey a desire to convert us, as much as a desire to put us down.

Many questions come across sounding like the old joke question, “Have you stopped beating your wife?”

We are going to convene to determine the best way to go about changing our teaching that blacks descended from Cain and are dark and loathsome.”
Actually, the teaching you mention is well founded in WASP beliefs long before the Mormon church.

In the book “Uncle Tom’s Cabin”, the old black man commented on the problem of being a “servant of servants” and how it it was used to proved God wanted him to be a slave.

Back in the 60’s, I lived in Mississippi, before that, I lived on the East coast. In both places, the black man, and other non whites, were considered to be less then the white man.

When I joined the Church in the 70’s, I found that, for the most part, the members of the Church had a kinder and more loving attitude toward all non whites.

Even today, I find that my habits of thought, that were formed before joining the Church, are still much like I learned from my old church leaders. From time to time I have to remind myself that I no longer believe in the old teachings when they pop up and try to control me.

The Christian Identity movement, which is regarded by other branches of Christianity as heretical,

JUST FOR FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have responded to different groups in these postings that, when you study there backgrounds, do not agree with each other. Some even say (but not here) the other groups are not Christian.

For many, the common thread seems to put my Church down.

Now , the just for fun pare.

How about all the different groups, list the other groups that they think are not Christian groups.

Point out all the racist politicians you want, it doesn’t change the fact that it is not doctrine of any main line Catholic or Protestant church. The only church that had it as official doctrine was the one being discussed in this article.

+++++++++++++++++++++

Might not have been written down, yet I remember a lot of church leaders, from many church groups, teaching and preaching the need to keep the congregations pure. Remember, I lived there, at that time.

This is really a wretched excuse for an article.

I don't solid evidence in it that Mormons still preach racial inequality and segregation.

Much of the article is simply bellyaching about the fact that they didn't get around to changing things until 1978.

Well, they had to start sometime. Just as the rest of the country had to start in 1954 or 1965 or whenever.

And if they did start as late as 1978, the changes probably haven't had time to fully take effect.

There would naturally be books around that reflected older views and people who still subscribe to those opinions.

Blacks who became eligible for the priesthood thirty years ago probably haven't risen very high in the church. It takes a while for top-down changes to be realized in practice.

If this were a call to Mormons to change their church there wouldn't be anything wrong with it. But as an outsider's slam of that religion it's pretty low.

The last throwaway line about being able to imagine things worse than polygamy is also a cheap shot.

If Romney "parses" phrases too much it's understandable, after getting "parsed" himself in such an underhanded way.

IOW, Christians practiced discrimination contrary to scripture; Mormons practiced because it was doctrine of the LDS prophets.

I don't know why that is so hard for some to understand.

However, did Mormons practice this discrimination in things other than their church? I guess I would be less worried about it if it was only confined to church issues. Heck that would be a blessing to blacks IMO to be excluded from a false religion. But then that's just me (and... well... others...)
