...Mormonism was a defiantly apartheid faith that denied blacks full participation based on doctrinal beliefs that whites are "pure" and "delightsome," while black-skinned people are "unrighteous," "despised" and "loathsome" descendants of the biblical Cain, who was cursed for killing Abel.
The priesthood proscription, which operated under a "one-drop rule," wasn't in place simply to keep blacks out of leadership posts. Ultimately, the ban was a manifestation of a central belief that blacks are unfit to be full members of the church on Earth, or to exist alongside whites in heaven...
Mormon leaders were applauded for finally ending the prohibition. But according to Mr. Mauss, the church has never repudiated the teachings that supported the policy. In 2004, he wrote, "ironically, the doctrinal folklore that many of us thought had been discredited, or at least made moot, through the 1978 revelation, continued to appear . . . [in church literature] written well after 1978 and continues to be taught by well-meaning teachers and leaders in the church to this very day." And "Mormon America," which was just re-released, notes plainly that "Mormon teaching against race-mixing remains in force."
Throughout his current campaign for the Republican nomination, Mr. Romney has declined to distance himself from the repugnant racial teachings of his church...
In his ballyhooed speech earlier this month, Mr. Romney said he wouldn't renounce any of Mormonism's precepts. And for all his claims to the contrary, Mr. Romney has, in fact, been willing to distance himself from past teachings of the church--just not those having to do with its treatment of black people...

Do you feel CC has an intense dislike for the church based upon her posts? My opinion is yes. I think that opinion would be shared by many here.
I know you are shooting for logic here but the above is a failure. One statement does not lead to another statement and therefore to a conclusion. I'm sure there is a latin term for what you just did but I don't know what it is, I'm not an educated person, just an old farm boy who knows bull shit when he smells it.
I know. :-) I was just making a point.
Nor is the lack of priesthood for blacks! That's the great thing about the church. ALL have an equal opportunity to inherit all the Father hath & Celestial glory. That means the billions that have lived here w/o the priesthood or who have never even heard of Jesus Christ, let alone had the opportunity to hear His gospel & accept Him as their Savior for that matter.
Thanks for the opportunity to make that point. Merry Christmas to you & yours.
Absolutely sure! Your assertions are very true, right up to that last question. ALL the temple ordinances that are necessary can, have been, & will be performed for those that didn’t have the opportunity here in this life. That includes those for whom you question.
The same principles that apply for the billions of Chinese who have never heard of Jesus Christ, apply for the blacks that never had the opportunity to be sealed in the temple in this life back in the day. They will receive those ordinances just as well as the Chinese, etc.
Great questions. Doesn’t the plan of salvation make so much sense? How else could a loving God, who is no respecter of persons, show mercy for those that had never heard of Him or had the chance to receive all the ordinances? He loves us ALL, & wants us ALL to return. He has thus provided a way.
Back in the mid 70’s, before the Lord lifted the restrictions for the blacks, I ran into one who said he did not care where he was in line, as long as he was in the right line.
I know you are shooting for logic here but the above is a failure. One statement does not lead to another statement and therefore to a conclusion.

I, for one, find that the words used by many, including cc show a great disrespect for our values. The words do not convey a desire to convert us, as much as a desire to put us down.
Many questions come across sounding like the old joke question, “Have you stopped beating your wife?”

In the book “Uncle Tom’s Cabin”, the old black man commented on the problem of being a “servant of servants” and how it it was used to proved God wanted him to be a slave.
I know African Americans who won’t even drive through Utah
CC tell this according the world of CC and not of the Church position, she is a bitter x er who is driven within, please excuse her!
When I joined the Church in the 70’s, I found that, for the most part, the members of the Church had a kinder and more loving attitude toward all non whites.
Even today, I find that my habits of thought, that were formed before joining the Church, are still much like I learned from my old church leaders. From time to time I have to remind myself that I no longer believe in the old teachings when they pop up and try to control me.

JUST FOR FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have responded to different groups in these postings that, when you study there backgrounds, do not agree with each other. Some even say (but not here) the other groups are not Christian.
For many, the common thread seems to put my Church down.
Now , the just for fun pare.
How about all the different groups, list the other groups that they think are not Christian groups.

Might not have been written down, yet I remember a lot of church leaders, from many church groups, teaching and preaching the need to keep the congregations pure. Remember, I lived there, at that time.

The Freeper posters teach that the Catholic church is also a cult.
Crickets chirping.
I don't solid evidence in it that Mormons still preach racial inequality and segregation.
Much of the article is simply bellyaching about the fact that they didn't get around to changing things until 1978.
Well, they had to start sometime. Just as the rest of the country had to start in 1954 or 1965 or whenever.
And if they did start as late as 1978, the changes probably haven't had time to fully take effect.
There would naturally be books around that reflected older views and people who still subscribe to those opinions.
Blacks who became eligible for the priesthood thirty years ago probably haven't risen very high in the church. It takes a while for top-down changes to be realized in practice.
If this were a call to Mormons to change their church there wouldn't be anything wrong with it. But as an outsider's slam of that religion it's pretty low.
The last throwaway line about being able to imagine things worse than polygamy is also a cheap shot.
If Romney "parses" phrases too much it's understandable, after getting "parsed" himself in such an underhanded way.
I don't know why that is so hard for some to understand.
However, did Mormons practice this discrimination in things other than their church? I guess I would be less worried about it if it was only confined to church issues. Heck that would be a blessing to blacks IMO to be excluded from a false religion. But then that's just me (and... well... others...)
