Romney says that it depends on what the definition of "saw" is.
A defensive Romney was peppered with questions today on exactly what he meant when he said -- most recently on Meet the Press -- that he "saw" his father march with Martin Luther King Jr. Recent articles have indicated that his father, the late Michigan Gov. George Romney, didn't march with the civil-rights leader.
Admitting that he didn't see the march with his own eyes, he said, "I 'saw' him in the figurative sense."
"The reference of seeing my father lead in civil rights," he said, "and seeing my father march with Martin Luther King is in the sense of this figurative awareness of and recognition of his leadership."
"I've tried to be as accurate as I can be," he continued, smiling firmly. "If you look at the literature or look at the dictionary, the term 'saw' includes being aware of -- in the sense I've described."
The questioning did not relent. "I'm an English literature major," he insisted at one point. "When we say I saw the Patriots win the World Series, it doesn't necessarily mean you were there." (He meant the Super Bowl, of course.)
The back-and-forth continued to go south for Romney, who had intended for the story of the day to be about his slams on Mike Huckabee for easing penalties for meth users. Romney had to correct an earlier statement that he had himself "gotten tough on methamphetamine" (His proposed legislation as governor never made it through the Massachusetts House.)
"I'm making sure that that's correct as quickly as I possibly can," he said. "If there's any confusion there I'm sorry for any confusion."
Romney was increasingly exasperated with the questioning, especially when a reporter tied in these instances of word-parsing

I read yesterday that David Broder said in a book years ago that Governor Romney had marched with MLK. His father isn’t around to ask anymore. Maybe it’s something he believed was true, in which case saying he “saw” it is not outrageous.
So far, the criticisms of Mitt seem to have a ‘straining the gnat’ quality to them. The bad stuff about Mitt doesn’t even come close to what people are ignoring about Huckabee and Hillary.
By the way, are we SURE he was an English Lit major? Better check on that too.
Besides, don't you get tough on PCP, not meth? You get hasty on meth. QED:
"I'm making sure that that's correct as quickly as I possibly can," he said.
Just joshin, Mitters.
Be very careful**** You are going to pi*s of a bunch of clowns.
The proper and accurate way to state it would be “My father marched to war as did Audie Murphy and I saw it.”
You know they both marched off to the same war although not “side by side” as the former implies
Romney was using Clintonian embellishment and though certainly not a big deal not a help to a candidate who has a bit of a candor issue with many voters as it is.
English Lit major! He could have had a journalism major!
I looked inside a car with one of these stickers on the bumper and didn't see Fred. Thompson is making a liar out of anyone who buys his merchandise.
Fake but accurate! What's The Frequency!
In my view, Mitt Romney gives the phrase “empty suit” a bad name.
He is utterly devoid of any principle.
lol whut
Tsk, tsk.. you are more intelligent than that.
Lord, give it a break, so we can all be seen marching on together......
Not a lie, but if you call me on it: overblown rhetoric. If you don’t, why, I cradled his head in my arms in Memphis . . .
“Wherever there’s a fight so hungry people can eat, I’ll be there. Wherever there’s a cop beating up a guy, I’ll be there. I’ll be in the way guys yell when they’re mad. I’ll be in the way kids laugh when they’re hungry and they know supper’s ready. And when people are eating the stuff they raise...living in the houses they build...I’ll be there too.” Tom Joad, “Grapes of Wrath
Whenever Pizza King has a two-fer coupon on their pan `Royal Feast’ . . . . I’ll be there.
Great... Another politician who has to define words for us. Have a cigar Mitt.

The only problem with your definitional explanation is that Willard may have said that he *saw* his father march with MLK, but he also said: “My dad marched with Martin L. King.”
He made a similar statement Sunday during an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” He said, “You can see what I believed and what my family believed by looking at our lives. My dad marched with Martin Luther King. My mom was a tireless crusader for civil rights.”
Maybe he meant that George saw MLK marching on TV, and
stood up and started quick-stepping in his rumpus room?

If Mitt tries that spin he's just asking for a "Weekend at Bernie's" photoshop.
