That movie goes on my redacted list.
So yet again Hollywood revises history to fit their own lies. Nothing new here.
I wonder how they feel about fat Teddy passing info to the Soviets in an attempt to hurt Carter and improve his own election chances.
Told ya! It’s NOT a coincidence this is coming out, with a huge fanfare, before the election.....Let me find that post I made last week...
‘The officials blamed the anti-Reagan slant of the film on the movie’s screenwriter, Aaron Sorkin’
Otherwise known as “Mushroom boy” at NBC.
In any case, if Charlie Wilson were in the congress today, he'd be a pariah among democrats for fomenting war against the Soviets/Russia. So Sorkin's screed actually celebrates a democrat party that no longer exists.
“...More Left Wing Hollywood Myths...”
You expected something different?
One has on the one hand the breathless “Charlie Wilson’s War” by George Crile and on the other the staid “Afghanistan: The Bear Trap,” by the Pakistan ISI General Mohammad Yousaf who was in charge of support to the Afghan Mujahideen during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. Simply put, for every dollar given by the USA to defeat the Soviets, a dollar and more was given by Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States. The Saudi money was used to pay the mujahideen. The US money bought weapons which were turned over to the Pakistan ISI either at Karachi port or at Pak airfields. The Saudi and ISI principles controlled activity at Peshawar; the CIA had only the foggiest notion of what the Afghan-Arabs — including Azzam and bin Laden — were up to. I will see the movie but I imagine what I will view is the usual Hollywood fairy-tale.
Wow. Talk about spin. Since 9/11 all the liberals could spin was that President Reagan funded Osama Bin Laden. Now this comes out and the Democrat wasn't funding Osam Bin Laden he was defeating the Soviet Union.
Which was the exact opposite of what most of the Democrats at the time wanted. They wanted Reagan to stop funding our military so that the Soviet Union would be able to stop funding their military so as to keep the Soviet Union in power.
I got the “Charlie Wilson’s War” book for my dad from the library.
He said it’s a great read.
But from what I intuit, Charlie Wilson wouldn’t be at home in Today’s
Democratic Party. He was too anti-communists and too much for a
good time.
I hope some commentators and film critics point that out.

Bye bye Tom Hanks! That’s was your last chance with me...
I expected as much but won’t let that spoil it for me and plan to see it anyway. For the most part the story is a great one and absolutely true.
Is Wilson still around? He represented the district adjoining mine, and I remember seeing him on the local news all the time, back in the 80s. Always thought well of him for his Afghan efforts. Seems strange, thinking back, how there actually used to be a few anti-commie Dems. They’re now a long-extinct species, to put it mildly.
That also goes for the Liberal media myth machine. Just because there is one Liberal newspaper or only Liberal broadcast “news” sources in your area is no longer an excuse. The Internet is now available to circumvent the lies, distortions and obfuscations of the media Libs. Encourage everyone you know to use it and help kill the Liberal myth machine for good.
The movie doesn’t say that. The movie says we funded some potentially nasty people (which we did) and then walked away without bothering to help them rebuild after the Russians left (which we did). It’s a good movie, lots of fun.
And, she said in a whisper, I think the actors playing the lead roles could indeed make it enjoyable, as just a fictional movie. Tom Hanks, Philip Michael Seymour. If it weren't so loaded with ... well, you know...
Well, well, for years we have heard how the evil republicans funded the Afghan resistance and now we learn it was totally controlled by ONE drunk, coke snorting democrat congressman.
