When Mike Huckabee went to Houston on Tuesday to raise funds for his fast-rising, money-starved presidential candidacy, a luncheon for the ordained Baptist minister was arranged by evangelical Christians. On hand was Judge Paul Pressler, a hero to Southern Baptist Convention reformers. But he was a nonpaying guest who supports Fred Thompson for president.
Huckabee greeted Pressler warmly. That contrasted with Huckabee's anger two months ago when they encountered each other in California. The former governor of Arkansas took issue then with comments by Pressler, a former Texas appeals court judge, that Huckabee had been a slacker in the war against secularists within the Baptist church.
The warmth in Texas and hostility in California reflects the dual personality of the pastor-politician who has broken out of the presidential campaign's second tier. Huckabee can come across as either a Reagan or a Nixon. More than personality explains why not all his Baptist brethren have signed on the dotted line for Huckabee. He did not join the "conservative resurgence" that successfully rebelled against liberals in the Southern Baptist Convention a generation ago.

So, Huckabee is either “way too Christian” or “not Christian enough?”
Southern Baptist are coming apart at the seams, thanks to pseudo ministers like Rick Warren.
The message is, that anything that is being said, by or about Southern Baptist at this time should be taken with a grain of salt.
Try “way too liberal.”
Judge Pressler is a good guy. I’m glad he is supporting Fred Thompson.
Judge Pressler is one of those opposed to Rick Warren and those like him that are trying to liberalize the Southern Baptists. His earlier comments on Huckabee lumped him in with the others that are tearing things up. I would definitely believe Judge Pressler on this.
I just know that Adrian Rogers would never have had someone that he could not call a conservative filling the pulpit while he was out.
No, he is ethically challenged.
From here in Memphis, TN, it appears that God called Dr. Rogers home so he wouldn’t have to see this mess.
Huckabee is a CLOWN who will say anything to gain a vote!
Ya get a NO SALE here, pal.
GO SELL CRAZY SOME PLACE ELSE, WE’RE ALL STOCKED UP HERE WITH NANCY AND HARRY!
I’m not selling Huckabee.
My comments are directed to Huckabee aka, Huck, Huckster, The BIG HUCKLEBERRY or his supporters and the Washington Compost writer of this piece.
Courtesy comment:
It’s not that the Huckster is either or too Christian or not too Christian.
The real question is that he is not Presidential enough.
You are essentially correct on Warren.

Excellent observation.
Rick Warren turned me off some time ago.
I bit off and bought his book the Purposeful Driven Life and just could not get into the book.
Way to many so called or self called Christians are looking for any excuse for not living to what the bible says Christians must do to get a free ticket to eternity.
I have been in the Baptist church since a young child but lately I see many Baptists are taking the mediocre road that many of these Mega Church pastors are preaching.
It’s all about money, Money, MONEY and Amen Mo Money in the collection plate.
Hopefully Dr. Rogers is sitting at Jesus’s feet as an advocate.

...thanks to “hirelings” such as Rick Warren.
sigh~
That is the other reason I think God called him home when He did.
Huckabee has surged because he won a couple of debates and hes got evangelical support. If a quick rise can happen to the liberal pro-life evangelical Huckster, it can happen to the conservative pro-life evangelical Hunter.

According to Intrade, the winner of the December 12th GOP debate was... Duncan Hunter.
