In fact during that period William F. Buckley wrote a column telling Republicans that Reagan was doing a terrible job of running a campiagn. Buckley thought Carter looked like a sure winnner. But when they counted the votes on election day Reagan defeated Carter by 10 points.
It appears that the Media Polls were just 30 points wrong. Oh the polls did change over the course of the campaign.. On election day they polls showed the race was within the margin of error. But both the internal Democratic and Repubilcan polls showed Reagan a sure winner. That is why Carter conceded the race just 10 minutes after the polls closed on the East Coast.
Bttt!
