There was a thread here a day or so ago about a 14 year old girl and her 17 year old boyfriend in Colorado babysitting her 7 year old sister. He decided to use his "karate" skills and act out some video game they were playing on the 7 year old. She's now dead. The parent/parents have the responsibility to monitor their own children's behavior but I believe the game also had some influence.

So would a Jackie Chan film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle film/cartoon etc.

In England they have forbidden the use of the term “Ninja”.

Meanwhile we have jihadists training on US soil for holy war.

There are bigger things at hand than seeing to it that Road Runner and Coyote cartoons are “adults only”.

“He decided to use his “karate” skills and act out some video game they were playing on the 7 year old. She’s now dead.”

If the video game didn’t exist he would have done the exact same stunt, only he would have been acting out some other make-believe source. Movies, television, radio shows, song lyrics, books, some story his grandfather told him about the war... any of these things would easily fill in as the inspiration for this stunt.

You cannot make a law to prevent this event from occurring, even if you put grandpa in jail for being the source material for this look-at-me-pretend stunt.

My 13-year old son once a week plays a teen video game (WW II first shooter type thing). I’ve watched it a bit and it looks pretty fun and not too graphic. However, one time he did come home from playing it and said something mean and “shot” his 10-year old sister with his finger. He got to skip the next week’s time to play it (at a friend’s house) - and has been good about it since. Same thing with PG-13 movies - if he gets caught using a swear word - that’s it.

There used to be apocyphal stories like this years ago, but the blame was given to cartoons and/or The Three Stooges.
