Thank you, MNJohnnie!

It was weird. I intended to make a vanity post and congratulate myself but I totally let the date slip by and forgot all about it.

I joined the same day Jim Robinson did. (Ha)

There were at least 37 who joined that day and I often wonder if any but Jim and I are still around.

Of course, there was a Free Republic before that...I’m sure for at least a year, I would have to ask Jim ... it was called Whitewater at first and was started to investigate that nostalgic little scandal.

The growth here is, of course, incredible and it is now the Number 1 conservative forum on the net... if I am not mistaken.

I heard, but that was just for openers. He always saves the best until last, and with the Huckster it’s an awful lot to save.

That would be a great thread! "Free Republic-10 years later a retrospective". I would love to hear the stories.

My guess is they headed left, so numbers began to drop, got an earful from us, and may have changed their thinking somewhat. I never forget however just how many are rats over there.

You are often the voice of reason and few of us are as disciplined as you.

Congratulations!

I lurked for around four months before getting ticked off about something and had to join to post. (Sure doesn’t seem as long as it’s been. LOL)

I just watched the General on FNS, we are so lucky to have Gen.Petraeus, what a military genius and truly a great American.

Memo to chris Wallace they are still creating a new govt. in Iraq, it does not happen over night.

Hadn’t thought much about the total blackout of current liberal commentary from late night and MSM prime time. Now that I think about it, it’s kind of refreshing isn’t it!

######

It is extremely refreshing. I think of this situation as one Rumsfeld would have called “an unknowable unknown.” Who could have factored in a writers’ strike just before these very premature and compressed primaries. Dems rely so heavily on groupthink to persuade their voters, they are all about ‘feelings’ and ‘intentions’ not plans and accomplishments.

Agreed, the general did great. I just wish people would stop jumping on a Petraeus for President wish list. The man does the job he has well but that doesn’t mean he would be a great president. He could, but but there’s no guarantee.

Wallace has the DC mentality and rarely thinks on his own.

My Dream Ticket is Thompson/Romney. Let Mitt be Chief Operating Officer for four or eight years, then Mitt takes over and all is right with the country for a long time. I have a feeling you have other ideas...

I am not a Fred supporter, (I cannot forget how disillusioned I was in his committee chairmanship when he was in the Senate), but I would sleep easy if Romney is in the White House. Let Fred be VP. However, I would prefer Hunter for VP.

Rodguy, I don’t remember yesterday.

The only names I remember were the people we would call trolls or distruptors now.

Wow... I’m a relative newbie here (although I lurked before for a year or so before signing up). I joined in February in ‘05, the week Mario Cuomo gave the Democrat response to the weekly radio address. People always seemed to like me, I guess I just fit in well on these message boards, I don’t know...

“I remember being scared to death,in 04 Fr could be tough on newbies (still can be)I paid a lot of dues.”

Yes, Freepers occasionally snarl at newbies for rookie mistakes, but I assure you, it is NOTHING like the baptism of fire newbies got on Usenet in the early to mid 90’s.

That’s where I first went on the Internet in 1993. I mostly lurked and learned and enjoyed the flamewars. They were MUCH more ferocious than anything on FR, since those newsgroup forums were unmoderated.

Like you I lurked for some time without joining. I joined because I wanted to post something, can’t remember what, and I registered to do that. But I have not been on as long as altura has been. Nor have I been as active as I’ve been these past few years. I use FR for the links to stories more than the comments. The one exception has been this Sunday thread, which is interesting and consistently great for learning what these Sunday shows are doing.

I should also note, the discourse and discussions on the Sunday thread seem to be better than some of the other threads I have read.
