"It's true that Limbaugh and Drudge aren't commonly thought of as establishment figures. But the truth is that they've now been around long enough to be, well, part of the woodwork."

Wrong. Rush has been around long enough to be part of the foundation. Steven Stark is only part of the termite droppings.

Huckabee has surged because he won a couple of debates and he’s got evangelical support. If a quick rise can happen to the liberal pro-life evangelical Huckster, it can happen to the conservative pro-life evangelical Hunter.

According to Intrade, the winner of the December 12th GOP debate was... Duncan Hunter.

I’d say the REPUBLICAN wing of the Republican party doesn’t like Huckabee.

For good reason. Good on abortion and guns, bad on everything else ...
http://travismonitor.blogspot.com/2007/12/huckabees-arkansas-betrayal.html

His record in Arkansas reveals that he despises conservatives and their principles on taxation, spending, and illegal immigration. According to Arkansas Eagle Forum President Betsy Hagan and former Republican state senator Peggy Jeffries, once he gained power in the Governor’s office with the support of the conservatives, he alienated his conservative based, and at one point referred to them as the Shiites in the Republican Party. Hagan was a key backer and number one fan of Huckabee’s early political career. But to her dismay, Huckabee did not practice what he preached. “He was pro-life and pro-gun, but otherwise a liberal,” she says. “Just like Bill Clinton, he will charm you, but don’t be surprised if he takes a completely different turn in office.”2 It is little wonder that Huckabee’s strongest opponents are in the ranks of Arkansas conservatives. He may have fooled them once, but they will not be fooled again. And they do not want their fellow conservatives to be fooled.

Phyllis Schlafly, president of the national Eagle Forum, is even more blunt. “He destroyed the conservative movement in Arkansas, and left the Republican Party a shambles,” she says.2 “

Right about the spiritual vacuum, but can it be filled with cornpone? Christianity is under the worst attack it has suffered in a couple of hundred years. What is this preacher going to do about it? Is he an “edge pastor,” or Mencken’s old “hedge pastor?” It’s hard to tell. Will real spiritual leadership emerge?

The only candidate even remotely addressing the crisis of the American spirit - and that's what it is - is Mike Huckabee.

Remember the last time we had a holier-than-thou President who was clueless when it came to dealing with the Real World?

It's true that Limbaugh and Drudge aren't commonly thought of as establishment figures. But the truth is that they've now been around long enough to be, well, part of the woodwork. To a discerning observer, they're not part of the chattering class

He says that as if the "chattering class" is a good thing.

LOL

Talking heads on the MSM "chatter" (what a good description of them!) , Rush and Matt shake things up with revelations and shock-items (Drudge) and reasoned discourse sprinkled with wit (Rush.)

And Rush isn't part of the woodwork, he's the building.

And the MSM is retreating into the woodwork.
