Logic and the drug war
Las Vegas Review-Journal ^ | 26 dec 07

One of the predictable characteristics of the drug war is how we lurch from danger to danger -- with each substance at some point being described as the most ominous threat to the republic.

From marijuana to heroin, from LSD to cocaine, from crack to ecstasy, from methampetemine to steroids -- each over the past eight decades has taken its trendy turn as the threat du jour.

All the better to justify the billions of dollars this country spends each year on the drug war.

Earlier this month, the U.S. Supreme Court took a small step toward sanity by ruling that judges can use their discretion when it comes to sentencing guideline disparities between those convicted of crack cocaine offenses and those busted on powdered cocaine charges.

And this week, The Associated Press reports that many experts now admit that the difference between crack and powdered cocaine have been largely exaggerated.

Arrest children for spinning around to get dizzy.

Or recognize that altering ones reality is as innate to humans as are hunger and sex.

Legalize it all and snuff out their stupid business. If they want to become idiots, fine.

1. End the war on drugs.
2. Spend 20% of the WOD budget on education, rehab and related programs.
3. Send the 80% balance back to the people via tax cuts.
4. Admit that the WOD was a legal, practical and moral failure, and apologize to Americans for the government wiping its ass with the constitution in the process.
5. Focus instead on a real war on terror, with more than just lip service and ridiculous asinine airport procedures, by sealing the border.

As an American citizen caught up in the WOD (6 grams of weed in my home got me 2 felonies and 2 misdemeanors!) Let me say this. The whole way we approach drug usage in America is wrong. Instead of working the supply, which makes lots of money for the state, lawyers, councilors and the system in general, what if we worked on the demand? Make rehab free for anyone with a drug OR ALCOHOL dependency. This in the long run would cost our country less and actually lead to results. Criminalizing possesion of drugs less dangerous than what you can get prescribed for an imaginary illnss or injury gets us nowhere. It is time this country got behind a war against the demand side of the drug epidemic.

To: When do we get liberated?

The WOD gives tyrants power, they have no reason to want to stop it.
