A Philadelphia priest accused of stealing money and molesting a student has surrendered to authorities. The Rev. Charles Newman, a Catholic priest, surrendered at the District Attorney's Office Monday.
The 57-year-old priest was reportedly accused of misappropriating hundreds of thousands of dollars from the Archbishop Ryan High School led by him in Philadelphia, and providing an ex-student he molested with drugs and hush money.

I left the catholic church years ago when I was old enough to realize what a profoundly stupid idea a celibate priesthood was.......and is....and will be. And they wonder why it attracts so many gays and gay pedophiles.
Being Celibate and bearing the Cross related to this vow a Priest keeps getting more and more grace and is able to get closer to GOD which is Good..
The Inverse hasn’t worked well with the Protestants.. According to Pastor News There are 4000 plus Pastors (non catholic) a Year who are Defrocked for sexual Promiscuity outside their Marriages. That doesn’t include the Homsexual Predators who are not Catholic pastors which there are many..
When is the teacher association going to adhere to the Same 1 strike rule as the Catholic Church??

Do you know how profoundly stupid it is to post this comment on a forum populated by many, many posters who are Catholic?
Do you know how profoundly stupid it is to make such wide, breath-taking assertions about how a major religion is formed and the basis of same?
Now I’m sure your comeback will be argumentative and will justify your profoundly stupid statements although you could, going out on a limb here, sit and ponder if perhaps your comment wasn’t a bit ill-thought and not appropriate?
But for someone so profoundly stupid as to post such a thing, EVEN IF IT’S TRUE I’ll allow, won’t get it.
The Catholic church has had celebate priests since its creation. The Catholic church is way better off without you as a member...thank you for that.
Now if I was going to have an intelligent discussion about it....FIRST I would not audaciously attack someone’s religion.
But to have an intelligent discussion about it...sure the priesthood attracts homosexuals. The vast majority of priests are dedicated to their career and hey, Catholics don’t need fine, considerate people like you critiquing a religion that’s been around for thousands of years and has managed to survive even with the exodus of brilliant folk like yourself.
I am reminded of Ted Haggard. I didn’t see many people calling his religion profoundly stupid.

He was my senior year Theology Teacher. He was a great teacher.
