Thompson sees 'bigger picture' in Bhutto slaying-'This is a war, a clash of civilizations

Reacting to the assassination of former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson told WND, "This is a war, a clash of civilizations." Thompson, commenting at the FAIR talk radio row in Des Moines, Iowa, said he suspected al-Qaida was responsible for the attack.

"The chance that a secular woman had a possibility of ascending to power in Pakistan drove the more radical Islamic elements in the country to violence," Thompson said.

The former Tennessee senator said the Bhutto assassination was "part of a much larger picture."

"This is an international war we are engaged in," he emphasized. "Bhutto's assassination is not a law enforcement matter. This is a global conflict, and al-Qaida wants to bring Western civilization to its knees."

FRed is peaking at the right time. He’s going to surprise a lot of doubters. The same ‘he entered late’ was leveled at Reagan and Clinton, and both won.

a clash of civilizations

The World Net Daily got this wrong. Thompson said this is a war betwenn Al Qaeda and Western Civilization. Al Qaeda is no civilization. It's a clash betwenn barbaric nihilism and civilization.

There was no violence at all before Bhutto went back, obviously!

Nothing wrong with waiting. A 3 year presidential campaign is a load of crap.
It don’t take 2 years to speak common sense. It may take the other candidates 2 years to convince people their BS is the gospel truth and explain why they had a diferent position a couple years ago.

Fred gets the big picture. Says what needs to be said because it is what he believes.

Go Fred Go!!! Momentum is going your way fast!

Please let it be Fred, please let it be Fred, please let it be Fred.

I like Hunter also, but he's not going to make it. The rest of the candidates, GOP and the Democrats alike, are not cut out for this clash of civilizations.

Flame away, but I think Rudy is the next best major candidate to be able to throw down. I saw his work first hand in NYC and the turnaround was remarkable. That being said, please let it be Fred, please let it be Fred,

Bhutto's assassination is not a law enforcement matter.

In spite of the fact that you get it, Fred, you can be sure that State Dept. will get the FBI right on this, they can assemble a list of Islamofacist radicals that had nothing to do with this so the DemoRats can insist that we leave them alone.
