HARARE (AFP) - President Robert Mugabe has appointed a three-man tribunal to probe misconduct charges against Zimbabwe's suspended attorney-general Sobusa Gula-Ndebele, state radio reported Thursday.
Gula-Ndebele was suspended by Mugabe on December 14 after he was accused of meeting with former banker James Mushore, who was wanted by police for siphoning foreign currency from Zimbabwe.
"President (Robert) Mugabe (has) sworn in a three-member tribunal to investigate allegations being levelled against attorney-general, Gula-Ndebele," the report said.
"Gula-Ndebele was suspended on allegations of conduct contrary to or inconsistent with duties of a public officer."
According to the constitution of Zimbabwe, the president may revoke the suspension on the advice of the tribunal, to be chaired by high court judge Chinembiri Bhunu.
Charges against Gula-Ndebele arose after an alleged September meeting with Mushore, former deputy managing director of National Merchant Bank (NMB) who had just sneaked back into the country from Britain.
Police said Mushore and three colleagues set up a money transfer agency in London in breach of Zimbabwe's strict foreign exchange laws and siphoned funds to offshore accounts.
Mushore had been on the police wanted list since 2004.
In May, the central bank revoked NMB's foreign exchange licence after staffers moved at least four million US dollars (2.7 million euros) to foreign bank accounts without authorisation from the central bank.

If anyone should face a tribunal..
Mugabe should.
“probe misconduct charges”
In Zimbabwe, this is done with a cattle prod.
Is Mugabe also going to investigate the Seigelman Conviction? All the other Democrat leaders are, he would fit right in with Pelosi & Reid.
The best thing about Mugabe, that copralite beast, is that he makes Idi Amin look good. May he be flayed by his enemies and his skin stretched over a rain barrel.
Sounds like he’s upset that someone else stole money that he was planning to steal.
I have no idea why they wouldn’t want to keep their money in the local currency. Toilet paper is hard to find in Africa.
