(CNN) – Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson has weighed in on the death of former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
“This is a war that we’re engaged in. It’s an international conflict,” said Thompson. “It’s a global conflict. Al Qaeda wants to bring Western civilization to its knees.”
Thompson also told reporters Thursday that he thinks “terrorism has never left the agenda” of the 2008 presidential race. “This is no time for on-the-job training,” added the former Tennessee senator, emphasizing the need for experience....

I'd like to see that expanded a little. How about, 'arming the People to disarm criminals and making available to the general populace superior weaponry to deal with domestic terrorists whereever and whenever they may be found.
I’m not familiar with what Fred did in the 90s when in the Senate with AQ. Fill me in.
So far he is NOT on my list of GOP potential nominees whom I absolutely will NOT vote for in November (if there was a Conservative alternative), were he to get nominated.
A former CIA officer recalls what happened when Thompson and seven other members of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Committee visited Pakistan in late 2002.
“The other senators, including John Edwards, attended the classified intelligence briefing,” the former officer says. “Thompson blew it off and spent a lot of time drinking and eating.”

The "former officer" forgot to say that the "drinking and eating" was with Musharraf. McCain was with him too. I wonder how much time Romney has spent with Musharraf?

If the story is true, which I doubt, depending on where it is done, one could learn a lot more about what is going on while eating and drinking in a foreign country. Briefings tend to be scripted and censored. I dare say Fred ain't perfect. But put him beside --Ron Paul;--Mitt Romney:--Rudy;--McCain:--Huckster. Fred's record in the Senate is pretty conservative. He is consistently against abortion. But the thing I like best is the fact that (according to a recent interview with Charlie Rose) Fred knows the meaning of Conservative principles, where they were derived, and the difference between principles and issues--which Charlie certainly didn't. Fred is also a member of The Federalist Society, which strictly interprets the constitution.

I personally do not trust Musharaff, do you? He had promised safe passage to Bhutto but did not deliver.
I wish Thompson would promise to get Osama ‘dead or alive,’ and mean it, if he becomes president.
Trust him or not, he is the leader of a large and very important country with a nuclear arsenal. The experience of meeting and talking with Musharaff could be invaluable to someone who must deal with him as president. Thompson (and McCain) has this experience, Romney and Huckabee don't.
So what is the story? You have to give us some information if you want to use that attack.
Where is the origin so that we can look at it?
Fred came across great in that short video...he is the right man for the big job.

Perhaps the events in Pakistan will force the MSM to actually focus on candidates who have foreign policy experience.
The only Dem with any credible experience (and that's a term I use loosely) is Joe Biden.
