At the center of the galaxies? Stars. Far more stars than you can see individually -- much less count. Some of them are possibly on their death spiral into a massive black hole at the very center of the galaxy.
Aren't you glad we live 'way out on one of the spiral arms of our own galaxy?

You probably would gain much -- and enjoy quite a bit of it -- if you were to bookmark http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ -- "APOD -- The Astronomy Picture Of the Day". I also recommend that you bookmark the APOD Archives and visit it frequently (as I do...)
BTW, & FWIW, the photo you linked to is the APOD for 01 December 2007 -- and, it, like all APOD pics, comes with a brief explanation by a professional photographer...
Thank you!
As an artist, I have long been tempted to paint some of those other-world (literally) scenes...but I don't think one can really do better than the Master Creator.
(I'm a portrait painter - there's always room for improvement - we start life perfect, but we don't always take care of what we're given...)
Today's = amazing -
Thanks for the APOD link!
