IMO increased enforcement is a direct result of breaking up the INS into two agencies, one for enforcement and one for naturalization. Prior to that INS could justify continued budget increases on the demand for naturalization services, and let enforcement atrophy. Now ICE has to justify it’s continued existence and budget increases (the top priority of any government agency). It can only do that by (gasp!) ENFORCING IMMIGRATION LAWS. The political pressure for immigration control dissipates into bureaucratic inertia quickly. Just look at the promises of a border fence. But a government agency never goes away.

The lesson is, if we want a border fence, we need a separate Department of Border Barrier Construction and Maintenance.

I guess those “in your face demonstrations with Mexican flags” worked out well for them....

That, I believe, was the single act memorized by 70% of Americans who rallied to defeat the amnesty bill in May 'o7.

Thank you La Razza for shooting yourself in the foot!

Good tagline by the way.

Thanks, very much. I have gotten a lot of comments about it, all favorable.

I started using it a couple of years ago after listening to the libs' complaint that Bush's failure to support abortion-on-demand was interfering with "family planning." The lefties never realized how oxymoronic (and just plain moronic) it is for them to equate a proactive ideal (family planning) with a retroactive ideal (abortion.)

My letter to them:

Hello Mr. Chardy and Ms. Poleo:

Some comments on the article:

For thousands of South Florida's illegal immigrants, the new year offers more uncertainty, discontent and, for many, resigned departure.
Well, I guess that puts a lie to the defeatist attitude of "Give 'em amnesty. There's so many here - you can't deport them all." Baloney! As had been predicted, enforce the law and the majority will self-deport. They were never here to become Americans, just live like them.

''The raids that have happened during the summer and early fall are a concern,'' said Larry Dunagan, a pole bean farmer in Homestead. Dunagan said labor shortages are possible if the crackdown intensifies.
''There will be a tremendous demand on labor, and a shortage is a concern because we deal with a perishable product,'' he added.

Then perhaps it is time to create some labor-saving machinery (or perhaps pay higher wages). One of the downsides of slave labor (for that's really what this is) is that it suppresses innovation. I was in Stockton, CA in the late sixties when Chavez took out the farm workers at the peak of the asparagus harvesting season. The farmers were welding steel cutting blades to their tractors in a desperate attempt to harvest the crop. The problem was that young sprouts were also being cut. In three weeks, the geniuses at UC Davis came out with a device that had feelers that would trip the cutter only when it met a full-grown spear. Turn American ingenuity loose and see what happens.
The upside, which should also be addressed, is that the taxpayer may have to pay 5c a pound extra for his pole beans but his taxes won't be increased to pay for the overload imposed on the school and hospital systems by these illegals.

The fund recently conducted a survey, released by Miami pollster Sergio Bendixen, that showed remittances to Mexico -- which were rising at a rate of 10 percent to 15 percent in the past five years -- are now flat.
Maybe now Mexico will have to clean up its act and begin giving their people a chance at the good life on their home turf instead of forcing desperate people to risk their lives to go North. As long as the corrupt oligarchy that rules Mexico could use us as a relief valve, there was no chance for reformation.

Also, please inform your editors that using "undocumented" to blur the illegality of these unfortunate people only paints the newspaper as a mouthpiece for the Open Border crowd, and by extension, tars its reporters as its "presstitues" (unfair, but true). The next time you are stopped for a traffic infraction, tell the officer you are an "undocumented driver" and let me know what happened.

Yours truly, etc.

The vast majority of Americans want them out. Imagine if the media wassn't their shill, the pressure that would exist to get these illegal foreigners out of here. Or if the politicians would just do what's right and not listen to the media.

Softening economy hurting illegal aliens? It amazes me that African Americans allow the democrats to import millions of cheap labor illegals, when they are supposed to care about creating jobs for black American citizens.

most of the liberal push to give amnesty to illegals is based on the premise that they are little more than slave labor, and we all need slaves.

I agree. Slaves are for both DUmbos and GOP business as cheap labor.

However, The DUmbos need them badly as potential (definite) slave voters that will keep them in power indefinitely.

>>>"My parents came through Ellis Island. I have no sympathy for these folks."<<<

Your parents wanted to speak English. They wanted to be found disease free and medically healthy. They wanted to follow and respect the laws.

Your parents wanted to become citizens of the United States of America.

They didn't come here to trash up the land, break the rules, disobey the laws, demand entitlements, or thumb their noses at the citizens of this country.

She’s still a moonbat (a big Obambi supporter). But now she wants the illegals to leave. Change often takes time. But, it happens.

She’s not representative of the majority of leftist moonbats. Most of them would never think to question anybody not wanting to be Americans. In fact most of them wish they weren’t Americans. To them being a citizen of the United Soviet Socialist States of America would be something to be proud of. Appaerently this isn't the case with your co-worker.

I am not buying the alleged good news. I refuse to be mean about people trying to feed their families, a lot of risk is at play here and it has been reported in AZ about poor folks coming across the border trying to feed their families but, they brought a little TB with them. I am with the fellow that does not believe the problem of folks flooding across the border without doctors checking them is true. I see more and more each time I go out of the house, not less and less. We don’t need a crisis of TB in the USA and the only way to insure that is proper Immigration...........Our Government is not doing what we are paying them to do.......You are @ Risk

Uh, the Aztlaners aren't here for government benefits. They're here to take over. It's time to wake up to the fact that we are being invaded. People who think they own our country are now emboldened to demand that we leave! It's long past time we kick their butts out.
