I think these farmers need to start researching some fruit picking machines.

That research, along with working (sort of) prototypes has been going on for decades.

The easy availablility of slaves has prevented the developement and sales of real working machines, just as it did in the south years ago.

Probably not with undocumented pyrotechnicians, tax collectors, inventory adjustors, or executioners either.
