I think that he believes that some taxes at the state level are OK, if voted for by the public. Here in OH, people vote for property tax levys (why i don’t know) to support schools, fire departments and the like all the time.

The difference is, that Gov. Huckabee believes these are state issues, not federal. As such, the federal taxes collected are more than enough to meet that need, which is why he supported the Bush tax cuts and wants to do away with federal income taxes altogether and put in the fair tax.

I am all in favor of the fair tax. But the likelyhood that Huckabee can do that is slim to none. Can you see Congress doing that — without which he is just all talk. And just exactly when did Huckabee started to favor the fair tax? Sounds like a gimmick to me.

But his belief system, that the government should take care of everyone and control everyone, and use the government to advance his belief system — such as penalizing people who smoke, or don’t eat and exercise the way he, Huckabee, would prescribe it — is very evident. And we didn’t even get to his fatal naivite about our enemies — Jimmy Carter in Republican clothing.
