Republican Sen. Specter Stresses Importance of Syria's Regional Role, Re-launching Peace Talks

Saturday, December 29, 2007 - 10:20 PM

Damascus, (SANA)- Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem on Saturday evening discussed with Republican Senator Arlen Specter and Democratic Representative Patrick Kennedy Syria-U.S. relations and latest developments in the Middle East.

The Minister stressed importance of dialogue between Syria and the U.S. on the basis of mutual respect of both sides' points of view, emphasizing necessity of reaching common grounds that help resolve existing crises in the region.

Minister Moallem also expressed Syria's keenness on establishing a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East in line with the UN Security Council resolutions, the land-for-peace principle and Syria's determination to restore its territories in the occupied Syrian Golan.

Sen. Specter stressed importance of Syria's role in the region, pointing out that he believed there was an opportunity for an American role in re-launching the peace talks between Syria and Israel.

Thanks for the post.

“land for peace” - wow a new concept. It has worked really well in the past 40 years, - not ! Not to mention the Sudetenland.

It has worked sooooo-well in Israel and also on the India - Kashmir - Pakistan border, the non evidence is everywhere.

What high watt bulbs our elected officials are! I sleep better knowing Specter is on the job talking to thugs in Syria.

BARF ALERT is right.

Arlen thinks that the Syrians want peace?

Man, he needs a brain transplant!( and a daily enema)

He must have a large contingent of Muslims in his constituency, and Arlen the Harlequin is ramping it up for Nov. 2008.

It’s absolute madness that the left in this country (and I include Arlen in that description) actually want to court nations like Syria and Iran for regional stability. That is like saying the wolves have an important role to play in keeping the sheep secure.

Honestly, it’s insane. Sheer insanity that these people can be so mentally oblivious that they want to entrust the world’s enemies to its security.

These old politicians like Arlen are so out of touch with reality.
Why is he still around?
If ever an old fool needed being committed.

Maybe Arlen will realize just how tenuous his existance is in the ME after what happened to Bhutto, then again maybe he won't!
