Why not keep smoking at home where it belongs and we wouldn’t need people asking for these laws. I think everyone can see what a grip smoking has on people, even to the extent of twisting the argument into how someone smells or them being a nazi beacause they don’t agree with there point. And its not a total prohibition by the way. I’ll say it again, I don’t like government passing laws to do this and if people would act responsible we would avoid this situation. Smoke at home all you want or a distance away from others. Heck lite the whole pack up at once I don’t care as long as I don’t have to breath it. My argument is for smokers to be responsible for there actions. Smokers have brought this on themselves.

Like I said above, it’s pretty pathetic that hubby and I have to go to Vegas where he can enjoy a cigar with his adult beverage WITH OTHER ADULTS DOING THE SAME — it’s called socialization. Hubby has an extremely stressful job of keeping the rapid transit running for the Cleveland area. He puts in many hours as well. He only smokes about 6 cigars per year, but just to be able to do it is a treat. And, for all his work and the stress and hours involved, the people tell him that he cannot enjoy a cigar in public with other like-minded adults. Think about it.

“Why not keep smoking at home where it belongs”

Well, I don’t like the smell of perfume, so let’s make a law banning perfume in public places and KEEP PERFUME AT HOME WHERE IT BELONGS!.

And believe me, I’ve seen people who are very unreasonable when it comes to ANY SMELL that bothers them. Whether it be smoke, perfume or even some cooking odors.

If you don’t like smoke then it’s very simple.

AVOID BEING AROUND SMOKERS.

YOUR RIGHT to not smell smoke doesn’t outweigh THEIR RIGHT to smoke where ever they choose or are ‘allowed’ in the case of the nanny government.

If it’s not smoking, it’s going to be something else someone doesn’t like and wants banned.

And you may be right about smoking ‘killing’ people.

But it’s the SMOKERS that are dying, NOT people breathing second hand smoke.

You couldn’t get enough tar in your lungs from someone else’s cigarette smoke unless you were in a room with no windows and doors 24 hours a day.

The ‘second hand smoke kills’ argument is a specious one and totally unproven.

Even the WHO (World Health Organization) said just the opposite.

One of the ‘emergency’ remedies for people with asthma is to give them one or two drags on a cigarette.

Seems foolish doesn’t it?

Why would that work? Because cigarettes contain NICOTINE which is a drug that opens the pores in your lungs and allows you to breath better.

The problem with smokers, and why eventually they may have lung problems is because of the TAR in the cigarettes and the HEAT generated.

Tar will build up over time and will ‘plug’ the pores in your lungs and damage the bacilli (little hairs) and can cause scarring of the lung tissue.

The effect is reversible by quitting smoking. Over time your lungs will heal themselves provided you have not let the condition go beyond the point of no return.

In most cases, healing will happen within a year of quitting.

Since you are not smoking but merely breathing second hand smoke for a relatively short time, your lungs will not even know the difference.

I sense your argument is not the ‘effects’ on second hand smoke but the ‘annoyance’ that you feel by smelling it.

There are a lot of annoying habits people have, but to say they must ‘keep it at home where it belongs’ is nothing more than selfishness and a ‘my rights are more important than your rights’ statement.

All I can say is.

GET OVER YOURSELF.

I don't like cigarette smoke personally. More than I don't like smoke, I don't like government nannies telling me I can or cannot do something.

I don't like fat, sweating, smelling people either. Should we pass personal hygiene laws? People who don't brush their teeth have bad breath. I shouldn't have to smell it. Let's pass a law that you must brush before leaving your house. Inside your house, you can have bad breath, but you better not in public, right?

I don't see how responsibility is part of this. I only see something you don't like (and I don't like either) and because it bothers you, personally, you want to pass a law to restrict it.

...or them being a nazi because they don't agree with there [sic] point.

And its [sic] not a total prohibition [sic] by the way.

Heck [sic]lite the whole pack up at once [sic] I don't care.

Don't you find it a bit odd that the government "control Nazis" consider smoking a major problem, while, at the same time, they look upon the killing of growing human beings in their mothers' wombs as having no more value than turkeys bred for Thanksgiving dinners? For the sake of time, I'll leave out other serious infractions.

BTW, reading a post replete with grammatical errors agitates my nervous system. Should there be a law against making such mistakes, or should I cease to read after I've encountered the first one?
